Job summary

Lead Security Engineer

You’re a security engineer with bags of technical knowledge. Whether you’re delivering multi-disciplined projects or keeping everyone involved up-to-speed, your focus is on solutions – and ensuring they’re found effectively and efficiently. Now, you’re ready for your next challenge.

Job description

FCDO Services protect the UK’s interests across the world.
We’re a trusted government partner, providing secure construction, logistics and technology services to customers at home, and overseas. From building and repairing embassies to securing government servers, we aim to be a world-class provider of government operational support. So, it’s vital that our technical projects are fit-for-purpose and of the highest quality – whether that’s in the UK, or globally.

Deliver technical projects that meet unique requirements

As our Lead Security Engineer, you’ll provide quality assurance on all aspects of project design and installation. These projects could be happening anywhere in the world. One thing’s for sure: no two are the same.

You’ll take charge of projects involving multiple disciplines, and act as the contact between project and technical design teams. You could be leading the pre-contract and bid work, conducting feasibility surveys, or co-ordinating designs to ensure they meet customer requirements and deadlines. You’ll adapt to changing situations and bring your construction and technical survey experience to a range of unique projects to deliver RIBA Stage 2 designs.

Build professional relationships that strengthen vital projects

You’ll provide technical and advice and support across the entire lifecycle of a project. With your technical and protective security expertise, you’ll act as the intermediary between customers and engineering teams to understand what’s needed, and how we can deliver it. In short, you understand the value of building relationships and being reliable, responsive, and easy to work with.

You’ll liaise with design engineers, project managers and the technical delivery teams to make sure that everyone understands the tasks at hand – and that solutions are accurately installed. On major projects like embassy rebuilds, FCDO Services won’t be the only government body present. So, you’ll also need to be able to work closely with multiple stakeholders and people from other departments, translating technical information to non-technical people to reach a point where all parties are satisfied.

Discover a career that could take you anywhere

When you join us, you’ll be contributing to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas. This is a role with global reach; so you’ll need to be willing to travel where projects need you. In return you’ll receive a competitive salary, 25 days’ annual leave and an excellent Civil Service pension. You’ll also have access to a wide range of training and development opportunities.

And while on-site at Hanslope Park, you’ll have access to an on-site gym, nursery, canteen, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. Above all else, you’ll feel pride in doing work that helps us protect people, information and assets here and overseas. It’s time to do your job, bigger.

Take a tour with our virtual embassy

Want to see your future team’s work in action? Step into our Virtual Embassy and select a guide – we suggest Anya (designing the Embassy’s security features) – to take you round, to see how the team delivers for government customers and how you could help. A note on security clearance

Every single colleague must be security cleared before joining us. If you’re successful in your application, we’ll ask you to undergo our vetting process to achieve Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website: https://www.fcdoservicescareers.co.uk/how-to-apply/

It takes a diverse team to protect a diverse world

The vital work we do takes an incredible community of colleagues, with different skills, backgrounds, cultures and identities. We support every individual, so that you always know you’re welcome and valued. It’s what makes us a Disability Confident employer. And why we’re recognised as a ‘Carer Confident’ workplace. And it’s how you know you’re joining an inspiring, inclusive organisation.
