An Enterprise Architect can contextualise the latest emerging thinking within DWP. As a leader, the Enterprise Architect helps to grow the next DWP technical leaders.

Job description

As an Enterprise Architect, you will be:

Responsible for driving the creation of reusable enterprise application services and their adoption and exploitation across DWP policy areas, to create more joined up citizen and agent services and maximise business efficiency.

A recognised expert and advisor in driving technology strategy and working across lines of business and shared platforms to ensure work is aligned to our enterprise vision and that business outcomes are achieved.

A key player in the development, identification, and future planning of the enterprise architecture of the DWP. You are part of a team that drives and builds our Architecture practice by providing leadership to a large multi-disciplinary organisation.

Responsibilities

Your roles and responsibilities for this role include, but are not restricted to the following:

Support the Digital Executive Team in maintaining a strategic enterprise architecture and supporting business case, that continues to meet the DWPs business objectives as they change over time.

Work closely with the Service Design & Business Architecture leadership to maintain alignment of the enterprise architecture vision with the service design vision & target business architecture.

Lead on the definition of, and changes to, the enterprise architecture principles, vision, & strategy; securing formal approval for the same at the Digital Design Authority.

Work with Solution and Domain architects to maintain technology roadmaps that align to the enterprise architecture principles, vision, and strategy.

Support the Head of Enterprise Architecture in clearly promoting the vision, goals and strategy of enterprise architecture outside of the architectural community in non-technical terms.

Participate in the strategic governance of projects and programmes; including where necessary challenging decisions that compromise the architecture vision, or approving needed exceptions, and in either case providing clear advice and decisions.

Participate personally in leading aspects of the development of the Architecture practice, through communicating and encouraging wider feedback and collaboration in the evolution & communication of the enterprise architecture vision, key principles, best practices, and reference architectures.

Represent DWP Enterprise Architecture across wider government to drive government wide architecture best practice.

Person specification

When writing your CV, you must demonstrate experience of:

• Making strategic recommendations at CIO level, influencing Director level stakeholders in a large-scale corporate environment, building business cases for multi-million-pound investments and associated transformation roadmap planning.

• Architecture Design and modelling techniques, tools, and standards.

• Shaping and supporting technology initiatives, projects, programmes, and portfolios.

• Governance activities to enable effective management and decision making.

• Presenting to large technical audiences, and IT/Finance governance boards.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

Salary Information

Pay for this role is from £69,869 to £89,995.

Where the maximum salary of £77,740 is offered, a Digital Allowance of up to £12,255 per annum is available for exceptional candidates, based on our assessment of your skills and experience.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Stage 2: Interview

If you’re successful at sift stage, you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams where you will be assessed against the Behaviours and Technical Skills listed in the advert. 

Candidates will be asked to do a short (10 minutes maximum) presentation on how you have aligned a large organisation’s business and technical architectures to drive an enterprise vision, making clear the architecture decisions they personally made. To be submitted 2 days before interview.

Interviews will take place in Mid-January. Interview dates to be confirmed.
