We seek an exceptional Media Account Manager to play a pivotal role in expanding the reach of our weather and climate content, and the performance of our advertising and sponsorship partnerships. The Media Account Manager will contribute to safeguarding the British public through the Met Office’s industry-leading media capabilities. In return, we will endeavour to provide you with experiences that develop your knowledge and skills in business management and development, service delivery, business research, and business-level decision-making.

Our Key Account Manager - Media, Advertising & Syndication Partnerships is a full time role, 37 hours per week. You will work a hybrid pattern and will be on site at Exeter HQ 2-3 days per week with a higher proportion of office days whilst training. You can choose to work more frequently in our state-of-the-art office if you'd prefer.

As our Key Account Manager - Media, Advertising & Syndication Partnerships, your starting salary will be £32100.00. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minimum. Our 2022-25 pay award means the salary will increase to £33559.00 from 1st April 2024, and you will be able to progress towards £36000.00 over time.

Your total reward package is potentially worth up to £44696.00 annually, which includes basic salary, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

Job Purpose:

The Citizen and Media Team sits in the Met Office's ‘Markets’ Directorate. Markets' role is to trade (for money, knowledge, and/or information) our propositions with consumers, to coordinate engagement with stakeholders, and to champion the voice of the customer within the organisation. The Citizen and Media Team own the relationships between the Met Office and the broadcast and digital media industries, and the Public Weather Service Customer Group.

You will play a key role in the account management, business development, and driving market and customer engagement. You will develop and execute the media strategies that expand our reach, enhance content engagement, and contribute to profitable revenue to reduce the financial burden to the taxpayer.

You will collaborate closely with product, marketing, and service managers to identify and evaluate video content needs and opportunities within the media industry. Additionally, you will foster relationships with current and new stakeholders to promote the utilization of our content and ensure their satisfaction.

  • Proactively initiate contact with potential new customers, partners, and channels to assess their content needs, with a focus on video content.
  • Utilize existing connections within government and industry sectors to gain a comprehensive understanding of their needs and requirements.
  • Construct a robust prospect list through diligent desk research and active engagement with the market, including news aggregators, websites, and applications relevant to the generation of increasing the Met Office’s UK reach.
  • Identify and seize opportunities for direct advertising and sponsorship deals centred around our video content, website, and app.
  • Negotiate with customers and secure agreements governed by specified licenses and terms and conditions, collaborating with the legal department as necessary, and using CRM tools to issue invoices.

Person specification

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Management or Enterprise degree program, or equivalent experience.
  2. You think about customers wants and needs, and how we can meet them with experience of building relationships, perhaps as an account/customer relationship manager, business research and with a record of developing and executing successful business development strategies.
  3. Excellent written, verbal, and communication skills, with some evidence of project management skills.
  4. You take pride in the impact we have on people’s lives and utilise that passion alongside your ability to solve problems and think critically and creatively, and proactively share your knowledge and experiences with others.
  5. Understanding of time management, task prioritisation, and not being afraid to fail.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
