We’re looking for someone with a passion for geography, maps, GIS and the weather to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Junior GIS Developer you will work a hybrid pattern and will be on site at Exeter HQ Ideally at least one day a week to maintain contact with the team and wider GIS community. You can choose to work more frequently in our state-of-the-art office if you'd prefer.

Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and we will also try our best to consider those intending to work a job share.  Our people are at the heart of what we do and we'll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone.

Job description

Job Purpose:

As our Junior GIS Developer, your key responsibilities are:

  • Develop skills while working as part of a team to maintain Met Office GIS systems and tools
  • Understand and be proficient in different types of GIS prototyping and testing
  • Assist GIS users in the Met Office with technical support queries
  • Be part of an exciting team making real change, expanding the use of the latest GIS technology across the organisation

The GIS team supports GIS users around the Met Office, curating Met Office and third party geospatial data, and providing data licencing guidance. They provide guidance and consultancy for GIS related work, by advising on projects and best practices, or generating maps for non-GIS specialist teams.

Additional information:

 We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation.
