Job description

We are looking for Data Engineers to join DVLA’s Data Engineering team. You will help build tools, services and pipelines to make data available to analysts, data scientists and report builders.

What is a Data Engineer?

Data engineers are responsible for finding trends in data sets and building algorithms to help make raw data more useful and enriched to the organisation. This IT role requires a significant set of technical skills, including a knowledge of SQL database design and multiple programming languages. Data engineers also need communication skills to work across departments to understand what business leaders want to gain from the company’s large datasets.

Successful candidates will be working directly with teams as part of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s (DVLA) IT community. This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a reputable organisation where you will grow your technical and wider skills such as teamwork, resilience, communication, and problem solving.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Supporting and maintaining operational data analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems.
  • Supporting end users of data systems by understanding and investigating data and pipelines to answer queries.
  • Building tools, services, and pipelines to make data available to analysts, data scientists and report builders.
  • Being part of an Agile Scrum team, creating, estimating, developing, and testing of product backlog items.

You will have the opportunity to build your knowledge and develop your skills in a wide variety of technology, including a range of new technologies as they emerge. We encourage our staff to thrive and will work with you to develop a training plan aligned with the role and suited to your needs.

For more information about the role and responsibilities please see the attached Role Profile.
