An exciting role is available within the Initial Teacher Training Funding team within the Teaching Workforce Directorate.

The Teaching Workforce Directorate has the responsibility of promoting the well being of school staff, reducing the unnecessary workload and burdens on schools, flexible working opportunities in teaching, teacher pay and conditions, financial incentives to enter the teaching profession, creating a reward and recognition scheme for existing teachers and the Teacher pension scheme.

ITT Funding are responsible for the end-to-end operational delivery of financial incentives to both attract and retain teachers in the workforce, with programmes currently worth c.£200m.

You will work on the high-profile delivery of key policies which support teacher recruitment and retention and attract high Ministerial interest.  We are seeking to initially recruit one role.  If there are more suitable candidates than available posts, then a reserve list will be held for a period of 6 months from which further appointments may be made.

Job description

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring that robust financial assurance processes are conducted to demonstrate accurate and effective use of public funds.

The role requires the post holders to work effectively with colleagues across the division, the directorate, and the department, including other finance and policy colleagues. They will work closely with the rest of the team to enable funding to be delivered to ITT providers in line with the financial incentives policy.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Managing and implementing an assurance process that demonstrates effective control of significant expenditure and ensures compliance with Grant Funding Agreements.
  • Engaging and managing relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders to ensure compliance with funding agreements.
  • Effectively communicating requirements to internal and external stakeholders via a range of channels.
  • Supporting colleagues and the digital communications team in updating technical funding manuals in line with gov.uk guidelines used by internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintaining complex models in Excel to ensure accurate delivery of funding and provide robust audit trails for assurance.
  • Handle communications and correspondence from a range of stakeholders, responding to queries in a timely and consistent manner.

About the Apprenticeship:

As this role includes completion of the Business Administrator Apprenticeship (Level 3) please check the eligibility requirements below using the apprenticeship standard: Business administrator / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education

  • You must have lived in the UK for 3 years prior to apprenticeship start date and not be undertaking another apprenticeship at the same time.
  • You must not already have a substantial amount of the skills and knowledge that is covered in the contents of the apprenticeship standard.
  • You must not have already worked in a similar role, or your previous learning, and/or work experience covers the contents (Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours) of the apprenticeship standard.

At the enrolment stage, the individual's eligibility will be checked by the training provider.

Staff will transfer over on their existing salary (on lateral transfer) and any pay above the DfE pay band maximum will be paid as a mark time allowance. Staff moving on promotion will have their salaries calculated using the principles set out in the attached OGD transfer supplementary information.
