The Office for Students (OfS) is the statutory regulator for higher education in England.  Our aim is to ensure that every student, whatever their background, has a fulfilling experience of higher education that enriches their lives and careers.  We do this by regulating the higher education providers on our register to make sure they are delivering high quality courses and positive outcomes for their students; where they are not, we take action.

We are searching for a new IT Training Manager to shape, drive and deliver the IT training strategy for the organisation.  If you are someone who combines their love of training with a real enthusiasm for technology, and are seeking an opportunity to blend your professional training expertise and innovation to have a real impact on the organisation, then we’d like to hear from you

Job description

Join us and you will enjoy the autonomy to take ownership of all aspects of IT training across the organisation to ensure that OfS staff are confident and competent in their use of the organisation’s IT.  It will mean having the skills to interpret the business reasons for IT solutions, knowing what impact that will have, and the expertise to translate IT into business speak.

This role is much more than delivering traditional classroom-based learning day in day out.  Far from it, this is an integral role within the IT team that touches on many areas beyond that of ‘training’; shaping IT communications,  overseeing the deployment of new features, driving continuous service improvement; acting as the advocate for users - this role is expected to contribute wherever the worlds of IT and users meet.

Person specification

To succeed, you will.

  • have excellent interpersonal skills and emotional awareness
  • have outstanding communication skills – articulate, confident and assertive
  • have a wide and varied experience of training IT systems
  • be well versed in combining and blending a variety of different training approaches
  • have a broad understanding of IT as a business function
  • generate your own work and have the drive and enthusiasm to seek out new opportunities for the role

Benefits

Alongside your salary of £42,001, Office for Students contributes £11,340 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.

Selection process details

The OfS regulates the higher education sector on behalf of all students. We value diversity and the wealth of perspectives, experience and ideas that it brings to our work, and we strive to embed equality of opportunity in everything we do.

We recruit based on fair and open competition and welcome applications from candidates regardless of age, disability, race and ethnicity, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation and socio-economic background.

Flexibility is important to the OfS, as we recognise that it can enable people to work more effectively. A set of organisation-wide principles shape our approach to flexible and hybrid working, which our teams then use as guidance on how they deliver their business goals. This would usually mean working from the office for two to three days in a typical week.

To attract the widest possible field of qualified applicants, flexible working, for example job share and part-time working, applies to the role.
