IT Operations is a welcoming department of 35 staff made up of several multidisciplinary teams, focused on delivering services that make it possible for everyone to use up to-date, efficient technology services.

This is a great opportunity to join a team that plays a key role in supporting the IT Operations department, to transform the way we deliver services, making a real difference to how the IT provision can be the enabler in the delivery of service.

Providing effective technical support to our customers and being part of project teams, supporting the design, implementation, and transition of new tools/technologies into business process.

You are delivery focused and strongly motivated to provide an excellent service. This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department. This role requires on site presence and is not suitable for home working.

You will be asked to provide details of your work experience and write a personal statement. In your personal statement please explain, using examples, how you meet each of the three criteria given below. Essential criteria for personal statement:

• An understanding of ICT and working in an IT environment with a good working knowledge of Microsoft products

• Applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems logically and independently using techniques to identify root cause

• Excellent interpersonal skills and strong customer focus to build effective working relationships with customers and to communicate technical issues clearly and concisely

Applicants will be assessed on the three criteria given above in the first round of short informal interviews. Candidates invited to the second round of interviews, will be assessed against the full criteria given below.

SC-level Security Clearance or willingness to obtain SC clearance is mandatory for this role and requires that you have lived in the UK for the last 3 years. The length of required residency may depend on individual circumstances.

Essential criteria:

  • An understanding of ICT and working in an IT environment with a good working knowledge of Microsoft products

  • Experience, knowledge or qualifications in managing network infrastructure, Microsoft Windows server, cloud and VoIP technologies.  A general understanding or experience of Web and other technologies and a strong desire to learn and build a career in IT support

  • Attention to detail that will support the ability to track, log and correct information to protect assets and components

  • Applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems logically and independently using techniques to identify root cause

  • Working within an ITIL framework with a good understanding of the ITIL Service Operations methodology

  • Develop processes efficiency, support specific activities to improve development processes and spot or identify obvious deficiencies

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong customer focus to build effective working relationships with customers and to communicate technical issues clearly and concisely, expressing ideas effectively and with confidence, both verbal and in writing

  • Ability to work as part of a team and to meet individual and team objectives at all levels of the organisation

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience of working on an IT service desk in a busy, demanding environment

  • Experience of negotiating with 3rd party suppliers

  • ITIL foundation certificate or specialist ITIL qualification

  • Workday experience
