Job description

Are you looking to start or build your career in the IT sector? The SDA (Submarine Delivery Agency) are currently recruiting for an IT Service Desk Administrator to join our forward thinking and progressive team of around 24 based in Bristol giving you a fantastic chance to form an integral part of our IM&IT (Information Management & Information Technology) function. You will also have the exciting opportunity to travel to other UK wide MoD sites as well as the USA and costs for this would be subsidised. 

In return, this entry level role could be the perfect opportunity to start your career in both the IT industry and the Civil Service, providing you with the opportunity to gain experience in 1st and 2nd line technical support, a mix of Business-As-Usual and IT Project-based duties, and exposure to the broader Information Management & Technology function. You will also benefit from a range of training and development opportunities over the course of your career with the Civil Service, including in-house and industry standard courses and certifications.

This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 10 years and obtain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you have been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining DV security clearance can be a lengthy process. You’ll join us once Security Check (SC) clearance is obtained, and then the more enhanced DV checks will continue after you’ve started your employment. If SC clearance isn’t obtained within 12 months, we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made.

Due to the nature of this role, you will be required on site a minimum of 4 days per week.

Whilst on the Abbey Wood site, you’ll experience our impressive range of on-site facilities including a restaurant and coffee bistros and free parking. Our sports facilities include a fully equipped gym and sports hall with bookable classes, as well as a squash court, tennis courts and a football pitch.

What you’ll be doing

  • Deliver Service desk support activity, gathering customer Information to identify the reason for the call.
  • Assess Customer software or hardware issues and attempt resolution or escalate where appropriate, to agreed service standards.
  • Action permission requests, asset management, account services, basic information workspace administration.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to Customers.
  • Perform initial front-line support to customers across the SDA.
  • Regularly share knowledge of common issues and working collaboratively with 2nd Line Support on how to resolve them.

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Proficient in the use of IT - Microsoft products or similar.
