Job summary

Summer intern programme – Starting 1st July

You will undertake a single placement in the Strategy, Policy and Reform Directorate working specifically in the Access, Licensing and International Team.

Commencing 1 July 2024, this development programme runs for 8 weeks until 23 August, and is packed with a variety of opportunities, designed to provide you with first-hand experience of our sector. Your programme will offer you hands-on experience with the Access, Licensing and International Team. By working on live projects and activities, you will gain a broad grounding of what drives our organisation and what we deliver. 

During this summer placement, you will gain meaningful and valuable work experience which will support you in your ongoing career journey.

You’ll be set clear objectives at the start of your placement and will complete mid placement and end of placement reviews with your placement manager.

Job description

Access & Licensing Executive

 

Working across our Access, Licensing and International Team and primarily with Passenger Track Access and Freight Track Access, you will join us at an exciting time as we increase the transparency of industry processes and showcase the value we add to industry and the taxpayer.

 

You will be playing a key role in enabling operators to deliver services across the UK rail network. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to become involved and support us in policy and operational delivery workstreams and for you to develop key stakeholder relationship experience from a regulatory perspective.

 

You will gain experience in holding to account through monitoring performance, producing reports and driving improvements through policy implementation which supports ORR in the delivery of our statutory duties.

You will own and lead a project strand within our continuous improvement project. You will create an internal process for the monitoring of access rights reviews for either freight or passenger track access as well as the guidance and desk instructions which underpin the governance of this. You will support our external communication project, considering how we communicate with stakeholders about our work and support industry expertise through the improvement of our external knowledgebase.
