About the job

Job summary

We are Britain’s national equality regulator and a United Nations accredited ‘A status’ national human rights institution.

We uphold people’s rights without fear or favour. We use the full force of our legal powers to defend people from unfair or unequal treatment and to challenge breaches of the law. We advise on developing laws and provide guidance, training and support to enable compliance.

We bring people together to create change. We work with employers, governments and a wide range of organisations, to promote understanding of equality and human rights and we support them to make improvements in practice.

Our strategy for 2022-25 gives us a strong platform to show that we will use our powers to protect and promote equality and human rights, and that we have identified the main challenges in society where we can make a difference in our role as a regulator.

Job description

You will support the internal communications manager in delivering the Commission’s internal communications strategy by managing communication channels, making sure that internal stakeholders are informed of organisational news, issues and direction and have mechanisms for providing feedback to management.

Reporting to the internal communications manager, you will deliver internal communications for the Commission, including content on the intranet, email bulletins, events and other channels. You will generate and deliver engaging employee communications and will influence the delivery of a coordinated approach to internal communications planning and delivery. You will use the Commission’s established communication channels and processes to make sure that employees feel informed. You will be recognised as a day to day point of contact for internal communications processes and procedures and will liaise with a range of stakeholders to both advise upon and influence the delivery of internal communications.

You will:

  • Manage the range of internal communication channels, including regular email alerts/bulletins to employees, making sure communications are communication, accessible and effective and provide information in a timely manner.
  • Support the delivery of a new intranet platform, working closely with the Senior Associate for Internal Communications to ensure the effective delivery of the project.
  • Manage the content for the intranet, making sure that it is kept up to date and is providing the type of information employees need and that required standards in tone, consistency, design and accessibility are met.
  • Support the Chief Executive and senior team in successful communications with employees in all Commission offices through regular face to face/virtual meetings throughout the year, making sure that processes and procedures are in place for providing feedback to management.
  • Contribute to and coordinate multi-disciplinary communication project teams as required, making sure that the wider communications team can meet its goals and objectives.
  • Adopt and promote a flexible approach to work, undertaking other areas of responsibility as required, making sure the overall business priorities of communications team and the wider organisation are delivered.

How to apply

Please complete the online application before midnight on the closing date. No applications will be accepted after the closing time. We use an online application system called Applied to receive and process job applications. Applied is fully compliant with data protection legislation and rated highly in terms of accessibility (usable for the majority of candidates with or without disabilities). However, alternative accessible versions of the application form are available upon request – please contact us by email at peoplehelpdesk@equalityhumanrights.com if required.

At application, we will ask you 4-5 questions. Your answers will enable us to assess your suitability for the role and will help us decide whether to invite you to the next stage of the process. Please note however - if there is a high volume of applicants, an initial sift may take place on the following essential skills and experience criteria: experience of internal communications acquired through a combination of job related vocational training and/or on the job experience. If this takes place this means the recruiting panel will only screen the outlined core skill question and you may not receive feedback on your full application.

Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
