We are looking for a dedicated and proactive Internal Communications Manager to join our Communications team at Ofgem, the energy regulator for Great Britain. As an Internal Communications Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting internal communication efforts within Corporate Services. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders, develop targeted communication plans, and ensure consistent messaging to keep our employees informed, engaged, and connected. 

 

As an Internal Communications Manager, you will have a unique opportunity to contribute to the effective internal communication within key areas of our organisation. You will work closely with stakeholders across Ofgem to understand their objectives, challenges, and initiatives. Leveraging your communication skills and creativity, you will develop and execute tailored internal communication plans that engage employees, promote understanding, and foster alignment within these specific areas. 

 

Through your work, you will help us achieve our key purpose of protecting the interest of current and future energy consumers. Everything we do helps consumers by lowering bills, improving service quality and tackling climate change. You will also support our organisational change objectives through a timely and high-quality internal comms and engagement campaign, so that Ofgem is a dynamic and world-leading regulator that is pro-consumer and primed for the changes we’re already seeing in energy. 

 

To be successful in this role, you will need to have: 

  • Experience in developing and delivering internal communication strategies, channels and campaigns 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and channels 
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels 
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment 
  • A passion for internal communication and employee engagement, with a keen interest in the energy sector 

 

Operate a Flexible Resourcing model. Longer term, you may have the opportunity to work flexibly across Ofgem supporting on a range of projects or may have a longer deployment within a team where you have in-demand specialist skills, knowledge, and expertise. 

Person specification

Key Responsibilities 

  • Implementing our internal communications and engagement strategy, by delivering high-quality, creative and engaging campaigns. This will involve organising, drafting and/or publishing content for key channels such as Ofgem’s intranet (news articles, video, etc), all-staff events with senior leaders, other internal events/seminars, weekly newsletters and office-based digital screens. 
  • Developing stand-alone communications strategies and campaign plans for discrete work areas as needed. 
  • Reviewing and where necessary re-developing our internal communications and engagement infrastructure (tools, channels and processes) in the context of hybrid home/office working. 
  • Setting standards and coaching Ofgem colleagues on their communication style/tone, and on how to engage and build dialogue with staff using multiple comms channels. 
  • Organising key staff events, such as all-staff conferences (digital and in-person), liaising with senior leaders, contractors and a wider network of stakeholders and volunteers as needed. 
  • Creating compelling and informative content for various communication channels, including newsletters, intranet articles, and email communications. 
  • Ensuring consistent messaging and tone across internal communication materials, aligning them with the overall organisational communication strategy. 
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of internal communication initiatives, making recommendations for improvement and optimisation. 

Essential Criteria

  • First rate written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create engaging and consistent content for different communication channels and audiences [Lead] 
  • Ability to develop and implement communication strategies and campaign plans, to achieve challenging communications objectives  
  • Experience in successfully designing, organising and coordinating large-scale corporate and/or engagement events 
  • Experience of meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders within a complex organisation, including senior leaders, using diplomacy and tact combined with the ability to push back when necessary 
  • Knowledge of communication best practices and strategies. 

Desirable Criteria 

  • Experience with content creation for various communication channels, such as newsletters, intranet, and email communications. 
  • Understanding of measurement and evaluation techniques for assessing the effectiveness of internal communication initiatives.
