Job summary

Defra Group Communications is seeking a proactive and creative Internal Communications Assistant to support the development and delivery of internal communication activities and campaigns within one of Defra’s largest ALBs (arms length bodies), the Environment Agency.

You will support the Internal Communications Team in delivering innovative and engaging internal communications to over 12,500 employees across the country.

You will work within a welcoming and supportive team of internal communications professionals, with the opportunity to contribute new ideas and approaches and develop your skills.

Job description

  • Deliver engaging content across a variety of channels, including digital, face-to-face and print.
  • Support the delivery of newsletters, content publishing, events and mailbox management.
  • Support the delivery of high quality, creative and innovative communications activity across your portfolio area, in line with business objectives.
  • Contribute new ideas and approaches to delivering world-class communications.
  • Develop close working relationships within the wider communications team and key stakeholders across the business.
  • Deliver priority projects to support the successful implementation of the Defra group internal communication strategy.
  • Support the Group Internal Communications Team in meeting business objectives, including event support, content development and publishing requirements.

Person specification

  • Ability to quickly build strong working relationships with people at all levels across different organisations and business areas.

Sift

Location

Please be aware that this role(s) will be contractually based in a Defra group workplace/office. The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location, and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.

Internal (core Defra) employees can apply for this role and choose to remain in their current location or to be based in one of the advertised Defra hub locations. All other applicants will be based in one of the advertised Defra hub locations. Defra’s current policy is that no more than 40% of the working week should be spent at home, averaged over a month unless exceptional circumstances apply and/or the post-holder is a contractual home worker. Office attendance will enable candidates to connect with their colleagues, as required by their role and business team needs. Travel and subsistence will not be paid for travel to a base office location.

Reserve List

A reserve list may be held for a period of 12 months from which further appointments can be made.

Salary

New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band. The internal roles rules apply to existing Civil Servants, i.e. level transfers move on current salary or the pay range minimum, transfers on promotion move to new pay range minimum or receive 10% increase. Either case is determined by whichever is the highest.

Internal Fraud Database Check

Loan and Fixed Term Appointments 

Existing Civil Servants and applicants from accredited NDPBs are eligible to apply but will only be considered on loan basis (Civil Servants) or secondment (accredited NDPBs). Prior agreement to be released on a loan basis must be obtained before commencing the application process. This is a Fixed Term Appointment as an Internal Communications Assistant in the Internal Communications Team. 

The post is not permanent. It is time limited due to a fixed funding period or as part of a specific project. The fixed term will end when the funding or the project expires. 

The post will therefore begin from the successful candidate's start date and end after 2 years.
