About the job

Job summary

We are looking for a confident manager with exceptional communication skills and the ability to remain highly disciplined and organised. This unique role needs an energetic and enthusiastic team leader to deliver tangible support to an integral part of the UK’s Air Defence Network. No two days are the same and whilst the role will stretch your influencing and communication skills and fully challenge your problem-solving abilities, it is also immensely rewarding. You will be responsible for infrastructure delivery at RAF Boulmer as well as the geographically dispersed radar and communications sites across the UK. Whilst the team’s work is challeging and diverse across the many business areas, you will be working alongside many specialists who are on hand to provide support; the key criteria for success are excellent people skills and the desire to build a strong team. There will be a requirement to travel to other stations and locations as part of this role.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

Working alongside military and industry colleagues, you will provide advice and guidance on all matters relating to infrastructure for RAF Boulmer and Air Surveillance and Control Systems sites UK-wide. This includes alerting the HoE to Urgent Estate Requirements and emerging programme dependencies to ensure the business needs are met.

The post holder will support the Head of Establishment (HOE) Station Commander by:

  • Assessing the infrastructure plans for all programmes and projects at RAF Boulmer and supported sites around the UK.
  • Acting as the “Intelligent End User” and single point of contact for all infrastructure delivery issues to ensure that the Station Commander’s duties, as Head of Establishment, are met and that the estate is maintained to an optimal standard.
  • Effectively understanding, communicating and responding to urgent estate requirements, short notice infrastructure issues, and risks to life and/or operational capability.
  • Managing the local infrastructure funds in accordance with HQ policy and prioritise spending within a locally agreed framework.
  • Reporting monthly on plans and delivery across the infrastructure area as well as completing performance and risk reporting.
  •  Building networks and working collaboratively with other agencies and contractors, including the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, Industry Partners, and HQ staff, to facilitate efficient and value for money infrastructure delivery.
  • Representing the HoE at infrastructure meetings and as required. As chair of siting boards, the post holder will conduct design and construction reviews to deconflict existing operational outputs, ensure safeguarding of capability is maintained, and to ensure the business need is met.
  • Leading and supporting the infrastructure delivery team; you will be line manager for a combination of 3 regular and reserve Service Personnel and 3 Civil Service colleagues.
  • Briefing at an executive level to relevant stakeholders on infrastructure risks and programme progress.
  • These tasks are not exhaustive, and you may be required to undertake other tasks within the remit of your grade.

Person specification

The position requires excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to build strong trust-based relationships with a range of stakeholders across the Station. Whilst previous experience in the infrastructure area would be an advantage, it is not essential; an energetic approach and willingness to learn is just as important.

Benefits

Alongside your salary of £35,290, Ministry of Defence contributes £9,528 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.
