The Role

We’re recruiting for Infrastructure Engineers to be part of our warm and collaborative End User Compute Services (EUCS) team.  The EUCS Team design, deliver and support the core infrastructure and systems that enable End User Compute Services and line of business applications for over 100,000 Ministry of Justice users across over 800 locations.

This role aligns against Infrastructure Engineer from the Government Digital and Data Framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively within a team of Engineers, promoting a culture of best practices and striving to achieve team goals.

  • Support the design, build and operation of modern user-centric End User Computing (EUC) solutions, focusing on the macOS estate, and services that enable the Ministry of Justice to deliver services across the UK.

  • Work with key suppliers to assist in managing EUC infrastructure in various environments, such as cloud, data centres, and organisational sites.

  • Demonstrate and apply a good understanding of the latest standards and practices relevant to the role.

  • Utilise scripting tools or automation solutions to streamline manual processes and improve efficiency and security.

  • Own problems, proactively initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns, trends and to resolve any blockages.

  • Collaborate effectively with other areas of EUCS and Justice Digital, contributing to shared goals and the delivery of integrated solutions.

  • Communicate with end users to provide timely and accurate information and status updates.

  • Present recommendations for resolving ticket requests and exercise some independent judgement while developing understanding of the process, policies and risk controls.

  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues.

The Infrastructure Engineer will work collaboratively with:

  • Lead and Senior Engineers

  • Technical Architecture and Service Operations teams

  • 3rd party Service Managers, Project and Technical leads

  • Senior Operations Managers within the EUC team

  • Key MOJ stakeholders

We are recruiting several Infrastructure Engineers, spanning both out Windows and macOS estates, that are responsible for various aspects of EUCS. If you have experience in one or more of the following capabilities and are interested in joining us you should please indicate your area of expertise in your application

  • Device Management: Managing and configuring hardware devices, ensuring they meet organisational standards. Using MDM suites such as Microsoft Intune/Jamf to manage endpoints in a large-scale enterprise environment.

  • Microsoft Intune: Knowledge of Microsoft Intune for managing devices, applications, Conditional Access and security policies.

  • Windows System Administration: Experience with Windows operating systems, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

  • macOS System Administration. Experience with macOS within the enterprise and helping to troubleshoot operating system issues.

  • Release Management: Understanding of release management processes to ensure smooth deployment of software updates and patches.

  • Operating System Updates: Familiarity with managing and deploying Windows updates/macOS updates and security patches to maintain system integrity using Intune and Update for Business.

  • Scripting: Ability to write scripts (e.g., PowerShell, BASH) to automate repetitive tasks, including deployment, updates and remediations.

Please note, you will be required to take part in an on-call rota, sharing the responsibility of providing out of hours engineering cover for major incidents for which an additional allowance is payable.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Good Technical knowledge of at least one of the above capabilities (Device Management, Microsoft Intune, Windows System Administration, macOS System Administration, Release Management, Operating System Updates, Scripting).

  • Excellent collaboration and partnership skills, with a proven ability to work as part of a wider technical team.

  • Ability to form effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally.

  • Strong troubleshooting experience.

  • Knowledge of ITSM Tools (such as ServiceNow, ZenDesk, ManageEngine) to manage Incidents, problems and Change.

  • Ability to develop relationships with MoJ Business Units and technology Teams.

Willingness to be assessed against  the requirements for SC clearance.
