This role will enable you to evidence your contribution in supporting DVSA’s vision by 2030, to keep Britain moving, safely and sustainably by making road transport safer, greener and healthier.

You will lead with assessing security risks and vulnerabilities, of forever evolving digital services and technologies, to ensure best practice, legislation and security standards are met. This will include modifying and streamlining processes for our front-line staff, so they can deliver services, quicker and smarter with accurate and timely data sources.

You will ensure that our customers’ experiences, when using our services, for example: driving tests, MOT bookings and commercial vehicle services are available on demand and provide the assurance that their data is held securely.

With your involvement with providing security advice and guidance with new proofs of concepts and technologies e.g. electric and self-driving vehicles, and the use of artificial intelligence.

Job description

You will:

  • Undertake Cyber Security related risk assessments, basic threat assessments and other risk management activities including IT health checks.
  • Monitor and provides analysis of business security needs and assesses the shortfall between both actual security measures in place and their effectiveness at a policy level.
  • Provides general security advice to business areas and projects when needed. Ensures that information risk is managed and mitigated appropriately in projects.
  • Provide wider Information to key stakeholders, project leads and service owners, to address cyber security related risks and business continuity planning and compliance.

Additional Information

This role can be based in Bristol, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oldham, Birmingham or Swansea, where your presence at this location will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model with the expectation that you will spend a minimum 60% on a DVSA site or on official business giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. 

Person specification

You will need the following experience:

  • Undertakes/manages existing security processes such as data and laptop encryption.
  • Execute management responsibilities effectively and in line with DVSA policies and processes; working with, leading and acting as a role model for team members and colleagues in line with Civil Service values.
  • Demonstrate leadership by providing guidance to staff to support the delivery of objectives. Manage and engage with honesty and integrity, and upholding the reputation of the Agency, Department and Civil Service.

Please structure your Personal Statement to provide detailed evidence of each of the following:

  • Experience in managing, supporting or securing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) systems in a business environment.
  • An understanding of the requirements for government security in internet connected wide area networks.
  • Ability to identify areas of risk and propose suitable and proportionate controls in plain English to a variety of audiences.
  • Understanding of risk management within a cyber security setting.

Interviews are due to take place on the 11th & 12th of March 2024.

This interview will be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
