Job summary

The role will support teams across the department  to work more effectively by using information management to drive change and support future ways of working. You will play a key role in providing assurance on the management of information, both within DCMS and externally, supporting the department’s compliance with relevant legislation and policies.

We are transforming DCMS to meet the demands of an agile, delivery-focused department leading on some of the highest priority work for the government’s agenda to drive growth, enrich lives and level-up society. 

Our modernisation plans include critical investment in our systems, ensuring they are fit for purpose and reducing manual input required, as well as the creation of a new central function to transform the way DCMS uses digital services, data and technology. 

This is an incredibly exciting time to join the DDaT function in DCMS. Our mission is to digitally enable how DCMS delivers its priority outcomes which can adapt and respond to the changing needs of the sectors and partners we work with. 

Our vision is not only introducing new skills in the DDaT team itself but also upskilling everyone in the department to use agile project management. We also want to transform how we solve policy challenges by using user centred design and collaboration with using multi-disciplinary teams.

We are recruiting an Information and Records Manager to join an existing Knowledge and Information Management function that forms part of DCMS’ DDaT directorate.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding the information management capabilities of Google and Microsoft products, and other emerging digital services and products, helping users manage information effectively and efficiently
  • Supporting the team in its delivery of services and collaborate with stakeholders in building a strong information management culture
  • Identifying innovative approaches to performing KIM activities, and delivering relevant change and improvements to enhance user experience 

Person specification

The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience of working in a knowledge and information management or information governance setting
  • Experience and strong understanding of using IT systems for managing information (for example, Office 365, Google Workspace)
  • Strong communicating and influencing skills; the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage own workload. Ability to be proactive and self-motivated.
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of information management legislation, and the information lifecycle, and practical experience of applying this 

Desirable Skills:

  • Qualification in records or information management and/or accreditation by a relevant professional body (e.g. IRMS, ARA, CILIP),  the equivalent experience, or the willingness to work towards qualifications
  • Experience of supporting users to meet their requirements

 The session will be an opportunity to hear more about the role, the team and wider directorate and the department. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions.
