Job summary

To deliver creative design solutions and prepare finished artwork for a wide variety of materials including, printed publications, campaigns, branding, display/exhibition and digital channels.

The role demands a high degree of graphic design ability, to be able to think creatively, propose workable design solutions and execute high quality accurate artwork.

The post holder will need to have confidence in working to demanding timescales and managing more than one project at a time. Be able to work individually or part of a project driven team of graphic designers, typesetters, illustrators, motion designers, marketing and digital specialists.

The post holder will possess strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite applications and processes, specifically Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator.

Job description

  • Provide support to design managers and senior officials within Welsh Government Communications
  • Integrate typographic, photographic, illustrative and graphic elements to design publications for print and digital channels.
  • Conceptualise ideas and propose workable solutions.
  • Work directly with clients to evaluate project requirements and make recommendations on what is achievable and deliverable.
  • Understand and accurately apply the Welsh Government brand identity and associated brand marks.
  • Provide advice to policy officials on Welsh Government branding.
  • Provide advice to policy officials on Welsh Government accessibility guidance.
  • Work as part of a project driven team.
  • Undertake quality control - review proofs of own work and colleagues.
  • Update management databases.
  • Prioritise work.
  • Ensure work is securely archived.
  • Modify photographic images.
  • Ensure work aligns with Welsh Government aims, objectives, priorities and sensitivities.
  • Be aware of IT developments in software, particularly the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Be aware of developments in the wider design community.
