Job summary

The purpose of this role is to help deliver the Government’s programme to improve the accessibility of Welsh law. The key objectives of this role are to:

  • Assist the Welsh Government to fulfil its responsibilities for making, laying, registering and publishing Welsh Statutory Instruments and other subordinate legislation made by or on behalf of the Welsh Ministers.
  • Maintain and update Welsh law on the legislation.gov.uk website using The National Archives’ (TNA) editorial system in researching and updating made law.
  • Assist with the operation and delivery of the Cyfraith Cymru/Law Wales website, including proof checking, publishing new content, and managing the ongoing relevance of existing content.

Main Duties

Welsh Subordinate Legislation

  • coordinating the signature/making process for each item of subordinate legislation made by the Welsh Ministers;
  • registering Welsh Statutory Instruments with the SI Registrar at The National Archives;
  • registering other subordinate legislation made by the Welsh Ministers on an internal database;
  • advising colleagues across all departments of the Welsh Government on the processes and statutory procedures for making subordinate legislation.

Annotating Welsh law on the legislation.gov.uk website

Updating  Welsh Acts and Statutory Instruments on the legislation.gov.uk website.  This will include:

  • analysing all new bilingual legislation (both primary and subordinate) made by the Welsh Ministers and Senedd Cymru to log the effects on existing legislation;
  • implementing revisions to legislation, and recording the appropriate annotations in both Welsh and English;
  • identifying Welsh law for the purposes of organising publication on the website.

Cyfraith Cymru/ Law Wales website

Updating text, articles and other materials on the Cyfraith Cymru website.  This will include:

  • editing existing bilingual text on the website with information which has been provided to the post holder by drafters of the material;
  • uploading new content comprising text, articles and other materials.

Person specification

As Welsh language skills are essential for this role, as part of the assessment process applicants are required to submit their applications in Welsh. Interviews will also be conducted in Welsh.
