About the job

Job summary

It is an exciting time for HM Land Registry (HMLR) as we continue on a major transformation programme. HMLR's ambition is to become the world’s leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data.

HM Land Registry's existing software systems and services form part of the critical national infrastructure, safeguarding land and property ownership valued at £7 trillion. This enables over £1 trillion worth of personal and commercial lending to be secured against property across England and Wales.

We are now looking for an IBM Infrastructure Engineer to join our Transformation & Technology Directorate.

Job description

You will be part of the IT Operations Practice, which is responsible for the performance and delivery of all technical infrastructure which underpins and supports the organisation. The IT Operations Practice consists of a number of technical teams which provide support, monitor and operate technical solutions.

Within your role, you will provide technical support for maintenance of IT Infrastructure and platforms, as part of a wider infrastructure engineering community. You will pro-actively support live services and be responsible for the resolution of live incidents or escalation. This includes supporting continuous enhancements to live services and systems to prevent service outage.

You are expected to act as a technical role model and leader and share knowledge and experience with others, in line with the continuous improvement agenda and to help build capability within the IT Operations Practice.

These posts may require occasional planned out of hours working in order to deal with IT changes and maintenance.

The main Data Centre and Technology team is based in Plymouth.  There will be frequent travel required to the Plymouth office to work with colleagues and other locations in the UK.

Person specification

You will have working knowledge and practical experience in the following:

  • Mainframe data and application technologies
  • Installing and supporting IBM z/OS across multiple systems in a Parallel Sysplex configuration
  • 3rd party Mainframe software and its deployment.

You have an understanding of systems design and integration; and of information security, and the ability to learn and understand new technologies. You can also provide evidence of planning and leading on the delivery of technical change at a level appropriate to the role.
