Job summary

Behind the scenes, the House of Commons Service is made up of more than 3,000 employees who support and facilitate the smooth day to day running of the House. They provide professional services to Members of Parliament, their staff, and the wider parliamentary community.

The HR Systems and Data Team will be responsible for the application support and development of the new iTrent HR and Payroll System, enabling customers to make full use of the applications. HR Systems Team experts provide leadership and technical advice on system applications to customers, maximising productivity and performance of the system. The Team will lead and contribute to HR business improvement projects, HR system module implementation, and will identify opportunities for improvements to business activities and system processes.

Job description

Part of the HR Systems team focussing on HR Systems application support and maintenance, enabling customers to make full use of the applications on which service relies.

Responsible for providing HR Systems development and support skills, a point of reference and mentoring of colleagues across a grow range of key applications serving HR, maximising system productivity and performance, and ensuring the most effective and efficient use of the systems by the Parliament. Provide high level HR advice, guidance and support of HR systems.

Some of the responsibilities include:

  • As the HR System expert, provide leadership and technical advice on HR applications to customers, maximising system productivity and performance, ensuring the most effective and efficient use of the systems.
  • Lead on troubleshooting system problems and customer enquiries, following agreed procedures for system and incident management, including documenting actions and outcomes.
  • Develop reports using varied report-writing or data extraction tools.
  • Understand the broad purpose of the HR business area and develops HR applications service to advance the strategic objectives of the business.
  • Technical Configuration and apply system enhancement i.e. user calculations, absence schemes, Payment and deductions codes.

Person specification

Criterion 1

Significant experience supporting relevant iTrent HR applications within a large organisation.

Criterion 2

Proven business analysis experience including process mapping, and requirements definition.

Criterion 3

Experience of leading on Database administration and understanding of data management.

Criterion 4

Excellent problem-solving skills in technical and service delivery environments using logic, knowledge and sound processes to analyse information and find solutions.

Criterion 5

Considerable proven experience in managing competing customer support and project priorities and collaborating with colleagues to ensure that targets are met.

Criterion 6

Significant development expertise of complex reports from HR systems using BI tools and techniques. Advanced Excel skills and a proven ability to handle and analyse large quantities of data.

Criterion 7

Experience of supporting iTrent HR Systems and MI reporting using Business Objects reporting suite.

Criterion 8

Act as a positive role model and promote the culture of House, maintaining principles of equality, diversity and inclusion at all times.
