Job description

Join our team and be part of an organization that is dedicated to making a positive impact. As a Senior Developer within RIS you will be responsible for building internal web-based solutions tailored to the needs of our customers.

The work will take the form of targeted development aimed at solving a particular problem such as the processing of, and interaction with, large data sets, as well as structuring and working with unstructured or sensitive data, safeguarding the security needs of the business.

You will combine APIs (C#, .Net, REST, GraphQL) and clients (Angular, HTML, JavaScript, CSS) with Structured Query Language (SQL) and MongoDb databases, using continuous integration (Pipelines, Unit Testing) and peer review to deliver solutions that are secure and robust.

Essential criteria 

You will need to be: 

  • Proficient in building .NET and Angular applications
  • Experienced at supporting and mentoring other developers
  • A full stack developer, used to working on frontend, API/Webservice and database applications (SQL and MongoDb)
  • Experienced in implementing software development patterns and standards such as Dependency Injection, REST, SOLID, MVC, and OIDC
  • Experienced in implementing and checking code quality including the use of unit testing, peer reviews, WCAG accessibility standards and code analysis
  • Experienced in contributing to ways of working and technical standards 

You will also need to have or obtain SC (Security Check) Clearance. You will need to meet the minimum UK residency period as determined by the level of security vetting being undertaken, which for SC is 5 years UK residency prior to your vetting application. 

Desirable Criteria 

It would also be desirable for you to have:  

  • Experience in IIS, AWS (or similar) hosting environments
  • Experience working in an agile software development role
  • An understanding of data security, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and how data is used to support HMRC compliance activity

Your CV includes your recent employment history, plus any other roles that you feel are relevant. A short narrative outlining what you delivered, your key achievements, skills and experience relevant to this role.

In your Personal Statement describe an example of a software engineering project you have been involved in. Your example must clearly demonstrate your ability to meet the essential criteria in the job advert. We recommend using the STAR Model (Situation, Task, Action, Result).  

You will also be asked to provide a statement addressing the desirable criteria, which will not be sifted on, but may be used in the event of a tie-break.

2. Sift 

At sift your Personal Statement will be assessed, with the successful candidates being invited to a Microsoft Teams interview. 

3. Interview  

Presentation 

You will be asked to deliver a ten-minute technical presentation on a piece of software development work you have recently completed that demonstrates the essential criteria.  

The interview panel will include technical and business colleagues who will assess your presentation and ask follow up questions. 

Experience 

The interview panel will ask questions to better understand how your experience aligns with the essential criteria/person specification in the job advert.  

Behaviours 

You will be asked a Behaviour based question to understand your “Developing Self and Others” capabilities 

Your interview will last approximately 1 hour. 

Interviews will take place via video link. Sift and interview dates to be confirmed.
