Job description

As the Technical Trainer, it will be your responsibility for the design, delivery and evaluation of effective and budgeted training solutions to meet the needs set by Coastguard Operations or outlined in the MCA or HMCG Business Plans.

You will need understand and teach current policy and to update and work with MAROPs & Aviation to develop and deliver Continual Professional Development (CPD) across HMCG.

In addition, you will be accountable to the Technical Training and Development Manager for the implementation of quality appropriate training and development solutions to meet the tactical direction of HMCG Maritime & Aviation Technical Training.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The development and/or delivery of Coastguard technical training programmes, courses, modules or events at Coastguard training venues or other locations as required.
  • The design and delivery of updated Search Planning courses for Maritime & Aviation.
  • Act on behalf of Technical Training & Development as a learning and development Subject Matter Expert to HMCG Operations and other interested parties as required.
  • Support operational staff, managers, and HQ with wider continuous professional development interventions.

Person specification

About You 

  • To be successful in this role, you have experience/qualifications in Search and Rescue, Technical Rescue, Maritime Operations or Navigation.
  • You will bring experience of working in an educational or training environment, including experience of designing, developing and delivering training and training materials for face to face learning and e-learning.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a track record of establishing positive and professional working relationships with a variety of colleagues and stakeholders, and the ability to engage, motivate and inspire others.

Additional Information 

This role will be based in the Fareham HQ or relevant office. MCA supports flexible working and operates a hybrid working model between home and office for this role, giving you greater flexibility over where and when you work.  

The expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your working time based at your principal workplace or out on official business. Details of the arrangement will be discussed further with your line manager. 

The post requires travel within the UK to deliver training at the JRCC and HQ, Southampton. Additional travel maybe required to other locations to deliver training and liaise with stakeholders.

There will be a requirement to undertake Continuous Professional Development as required. Levels of qualification will need to be maintained.

This post is offered on a fixed term basis of 12 months with a possibility of an extension or being made permanent.

Permanent Civil Servants will not be expected to change their employment status from permanent to fixed term appointment. OGD applicants will be appointed on inward loan and subject to the terms of the agreed inward loan agreement.
