Job summary

The technical team sits within the wider COBR Unit, within NSS and responsible for ensuring among other things the operational readiness of the national crisis management centre. The role in question requires a high degree of autonomy working across both short and longer term programmes of work to maintain all aspects of technical infrastructure, security and systems support to COBR. The team also works alongside teams from other departments on the delivery of business critical IT, Audio Visual, Voice, Data and Telecommunications projects at a range of security classifications across a number of UK sites,

Job description

  • The Project Engineer will work to the Technical Projects Manager on the delivery of new projects. This will involve:
  • Support on the management of technical contracts and ensuring value for money. 
  • Provide technical input to project work / enhancements to the crisis facilities; drafting system drawings and technical specifications.
  • Maintaining project plans, including high level milestones through to day to day task planning.
  • Assist with configuration Control of COBR infrastructure and systems.
  • Management of the Network Equipment Room (NER), maintaining accurate and assured configuration data
  • Support technical team on the maintenance of the asset register across sites.
  • Build capability through system learning, guidance and training.
  • Provide technical support to crisis activation. Deploy for short duration's anywhere within the UK in support of operational requirements and training exercises. 
  • Assist with the management of technical budget, raising the necessary purchase orders, with their associated paperwork, when approved. Track technical financial spend in line with unit procedures.

  • Ability to prioritise urgent issues whilst achieving outcomes to agreed deadlines.

  • Attentive to detail with a drive to complete the full task.

Additional information

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace. Although requirements to attend other locations for official business will also count towards this level of attendance.
