The Supply Resilience Directorate coordinates and drives DHSC’s work on supply, delivering a more strategic approach working closely across Government, the NHS and with industry. We respond to challenges and disruptions to the supply of medicines and medical products and drive long-term strategic thinking to improve resilience of key products.

Job description

We are recruiting a Grade 7 Senior Policy Advisor within the Strategic Supply Resilience Team which is responsible for setting long-term strategic direction to help enhance resilience for critical products (for example developing manufacturing policy for critical products) and driving international engagement to maintain a global focus on supply resilience activities.

The post-holder will play a crucial role in developing policy on a critical Government priority. The role is varied allowing the individual to develop a wide range of skills across policy development, project management, operational response/ delivery and stakeholder engagement. Our teams work flexibility across the Directorate to ensure that individuals have stretching objectives and wide-ranging portfolios.

Person specification

Leading policy development to strengthen long-term resilience of medical supply chains, analysing complex available evidence and engaging with colleagues across Government and industry to effectively advise Ministers and senior official.

Leading international engagement on supply resilience to drive the UK’s key priorities, sharing knowledge on best practice approaches to enhance and build medical supply chain resilience as well as supply risks and address them collaboratively, given the global nature of supply chains. You will be expected to work with colleagues across DHSC and Government to coordinate briefings and feed into the planning and implementation of bilateral and multilateral forums.

Influencing cross-government activity on long term medical supply chains, by working closely across DHSC, ALBs, Whitehall and industry to develop policy to strengthen resilience of medical supply chains and drafting policy papers, briefings and advice for Ministerial and Cabinet Committee meetings.

Delivering priority projects to meet the Directorate’s strategic ambitions, working with key internal and external stakeholders including colleagues across the Department, Government and industry.

Key skills and experience required for the role

Experience of evidence-based decision making and analysing complex and/ or incomplete information to weigh up options and make recommendations.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting advice and briefing for senior leaders.

Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to work collaboratively across a broad portfolio on cross-cutting policy.

Ability to work at pace in response to changing information and priorities.

A strong team player, happy to support and work effectively alongside team members of all grades, experience and backgrounds.

Good project management and delivery skills, including being comfortable managing multiple priorities and delivering high quality outcomes at pace.
