Job summary

The Integrated Corporate Services (ICS) is a new shared corporate service, launched in July 2023. It will provide corporate services (HR, Finance, Digital, Commercial, Security and Estates) across the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT).

Our team of just over 300 professionals will be leading the way in how these functions will be delivered in the future. Our ambition is to be the leading provider of integrated corporate services for government and set the standard for quality, efficiency, and innovation in our field.

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled professional to fill the role of Senior Head of GDPR Service. This key leadership position is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the DSIT and DESNZ compliance with data protection regulations, with a primary focus on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the privacy and integrity of sensitive information while providing strategic guidance to the two Departments.

GDPR Compliance Oversight:
• Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive GDPR compliance program.
• Monitor and assess data processing activities to ensure alignment with GDPR requirements.
• Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential compliance gaps.

Policy Development and Implementation:
• Develop, update, and communicate data protection policies and procedures across the organisation.
• Ensure that all departments and employees are informed and trained on data protection regulations and policies.

Data Subject Rights:
• Establish and manage processes for handling data subject rights requests, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to address and resolve privacy-related concerns raised by data subjects.

Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs):
• Oversee the completion of DPIAs for new projects or processes involving the processing of personal data.
• Provide recommendations and guidance to mitigate privacy risks associated with new initiatives.

Incident Response and Reporting:
• Develop and maintain an incident response plan for data breaches and privacy incidents.
• Coordinate with internal teams to investigate and report data breaches to the relevant supervisory authorities and affected data subjects.

Vendor Management:
• Evaluate and monitor the data protection practices of third-party vendors and partners.
• Ensure that data processing agreements are in place and compliant with relevant regulations.

Regulatory Liaison:
• Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities regarding data protection matters.
• Stay informed about changes in data protection laws and regulations, providing updates and recommendations as necessary.

Skills and experience

Essential Criteria
• You are an expert in UK GDPR and can support UK GDPR Subject Matter Experts (SME).
• You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly when handing challenging conversations.
• You can work well with senior leaders, such as Permanent Secretaries and Ministers.
• You think strategically and align data protection initiatives with wider department initiatives.
