Job description

We are looking for an experienced professional to take up the role as Head of Business Support. You will be working closely with the security senior management team, cross-government security colleagues and the wider Home Office finance directorate.

You will grow positive relationships with customers through our governance network as well as maintaining regular dialogue with the security functional centre and Home Office finance colleagues. This is a key role in the security senior team and the post holder will be responsible for providing financial advice to budget holders, as well as responsible for our overall financial management arrangements including recharging customers.

Due to the nature of this post this position is only open to full-time members of staff.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estates capacity, by Spring 2024. Responsibilities

HR & People: You will be responsible for the strategic workforce planning of Security and Investigations. The Business Support team is responsible for developing internal workforce plans as well as responding to annual commissions from the Government Security Profession to identify how we can build and strength our workforce. This role will oversee the management of S&I’s local people processes.

Finance: You will be responsible for taking a strategic lead on Security & Investigations financial requirements, providing advice to the SMT. You will work will budget holders to establish the budgetary profile for S&I each year and ensure financial process such as forecasting, spending reviews, invoicing, procurement are carried out to the required standard.

Assurance: You will oversee and support the Business Support Lead in the completion of the Cabinet Office Annual Departmental Security Health Check and the Home Office quarterly Compliance Framework commissions. You will deliver a security assurance and oversight mechanism for ALBs and those public inquiries supported by the Home Office.

Business Continuity: You will be responsible for oversight of the business continuity plans for Security, Estates and Information supporting the wider team to ensure plans are robust, effective, and regularly reviewed.

Security: As a member of the Security Adviser Team, you may be required to support the oversight and management of the response to live incidents, working in a fast-paced environment, and coordinating with other members of the team to ensure there is sufficient coverage throughout the working week. You will provide decisive leadership, ensuring that incidents are dealt with swiftly, in an appropriate manner, escalating where necessary. This will involve effective stakeholder engagement with site managers and OGD partners, alongside relevant security partners to ensure that IM investigation, action and review are timely and aligned.

There is also a requirement to contribute to the Security Culture and Awareness Team engagement work. This will require raising security awareness across the entire Department, including delivering face-to-face security briefings to Private Office and presentations across a variety of security topics linked to security policies.

Management: This post will have line management responsibility.

  • Ability to build strong working relationship in often changing circumstances and ability to present complex issues in an easily understood way in order to achieve good outcomes and effectively persuade customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with numerous groups of people, flexing style and tone as needed for the audience.

Selection process details
