About the job

Job summary

You will be working with Andrew Kyle, our Senior Affordable Housing Growth Manager, and a small, dedicated team based in Northstowe and as part of a larger national team.  The Growth Manager will play an important role in supporting the team and working with partners to develop and deliver a pipeline of new high quality affordable housing schemes to meet our ambitious plans to invest the £7.4bn Affordable Housing Programme, to deliver up to 130,000 affordable homes across the country.

This is a fixed term opportunity running to 7th April 2025 to join our highly experienced and motivated team focused on supporting the sector to increase affordable housing delivery, maximising opportunities for investment and meeting local ambitions. It is a great opportunity to develop key skills and knowledge of the sector.

The focus of engagement for the Northstowe hub is delivery across South East England, excluding London.  The role involves both desk based technical grant application assessment work and outward facing engagement with our delivery partners and local authorities, requiring travel across the region, but particularly Surrey, Sussex and Kent. No two days are the same.

Job description

The team believes in delivering a first-class customer service, resolving challenges informally wherever possible, and taking an innovative and creative approach to building more affordable homes. The team works in a collaborative way, valuing diversity in experience and perspective to foster good decision making and problem solving.

This is a rare chance to shape the future delivery of affordable housing in a fast growing, national organisation with a strong social purpose. Working with key stakeholders and a professional Grants team you will ensure efficient, consistent and compliant affordable housing grant bids are assessed and taken through to a final decision, helping to create much needed affordable housing. You will be dealing with multiple schemes with multiple partners at a time, giving you a diverse workload and opportunity to work with many organisations.

Person specification

Our day job is to deliver first class customer service to our stakeholders and you will be responsible for increasing the supply of affordable housing in collaboration with a range of key delivery partners. You will be used to spinning several plates at once and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate.

You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills. You will be comfortable presenting information to internal stakeholders, local authorities and external housing delivery forums leading to targeted affordable housing delivery that responds to market and partner analysis. You will also have strong numeric and analytical and skills, with a good understanding of housing development and in particular the affordable housing sector, including funding models and scheme appraisal.

Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will be resilient and comfortable managing and working with a broad range of stakeholders.  Your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as an affordable housing and investment team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.

As an experienced housing delivery specialist, you’ll understand how to manage colleagues’ expectations, and be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of multi-functional teams in a collaborative, inclusive way.
