As a soon-to-graduate, or recent graduate Engineer who wants to design and build things, you need to work alongside subject matter experts who have the knowledge and time to help you transform your academic knowledge into real-world engineering experience.

You’ll be joining a well-resourced team of multi-disciplined engineers who design and build advanced communications systems.  Every nut, bolt, circuit and line of code is designed by us, here in the lab.

You can be a part of the design, prototyping and testing of new products – you’ll work alongside experienced design engineers at every step. You’ll be applying your DSP, RF or Communications knowledge to bespoke problems that you won’t find anywhere else. From day 1 you’ll build things that have a direct impact on UK National Security.

Job description

Using your diverse range of skills within the Communications Systems Development Group, you will:

  • Contribute to system design and implementation, taking on increasing levels of complexity as your skills grow.
  • Increase your knowledge and skills through a mixture of formal training and hands-on practical experience.
  • Gain skills across the full product development lifecycle.
  • Learn how to collaborate with other Engineering disciplines to build a product.
  • Learn how to devise and execute comprehensive test specifications for complex systems.
  • Become one of the very few, at the heart of National Security Engineering

Person specification

To apply for this role, you will already have:

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent in an appropriate STEM subject (or working towards one).
  • Degree equivalent study in RF, Electronics or DSP design.
  • Experience of using software modelling tools (MATLAB/Simulink, Python or similar).

To strengthen your application, it would be beneficial if you also have:

  • Knowledge of Software Defined Radio.
  • Experience of implementing DSP designs in hardware (FPGA or embedded platforms).
  • An understanding of RF communications systems.
  • A passion for practical engineering.
