The Communications Directorate at DHSC leads the conversation about health and care by engaging people through innovative communications, supporting improvements to the health of the nation and the running of the NHS.

We use digital channels to inform the public about our work which is a key part of our communications approach and the Digital Content team play an essential role in delivering content for GOV.UK that puts the user at the heart of our work.

The team delivers a wide range of content on GOV.UK including consultations, guidance and reports, ensuring it is always accessible and easy to understand for all audiences. They also produce content for internal audiences via the DHSC intranet – again making sure the material meets the needs of our users.

Job description

The GOV.UK Content Delivery Manager is responsible for supporting the Head of Digital Content to manage a team of content designers, looking after DHSC content published on GOV.UK as well our intranet.

As an experienced content designer, you will advise and support the team around content challenges and work with colleagues across the department to advocate for user centred, accessible content.

You will thrive managing a varied set of high-profile projects, helping the team’s content designers learn and develop.

You will work closely with colleagues across the Communications Directorate to agree publishing timescales and manage the team’s workload.

The Delivery Manager also acts as an important point of contact between the DHSC content designers and the Government Digital Service.

Key responsibilities:

  • lead the triage of incoming content work according to the team’s priorities, delegating projects and identifying weekly work flow
  • liaise with our stakeholders to understand their requirements, communicate timeframes and ensure their content meets GOV.UK best practice
  • manage a team of 3 content designers supporting them with their professional development
  • work closely with peers in the Government Digital Service and arm’s length bodies to ensure consistency in communications and develop synergies across departments
  • liaise with external suppliers including coordination of freelance content design support and supporting wider colleagues across DHSC with design and content specifications
  • act as an advocate of user centred design across DHSC, ensuring guidance is clear and in plain English

Person specification

The successful candidate will have experience of:

  • managing content designers, resourcing (capacity management) and prioritising sizeable volume of work requests to a digital publishing service
  • creating, improving, publishing, and managing high-quality, user-centred written content for GOV.UK
  • working with a range of content requests and multiple stakeholders
  • skilled in making complex language and processes easy to understand
  • capable of using analytics, user feedback and user research to evaluate and improve services
  • capable of building relationships with stakeholders to understand their goals and working with them to improve user journeys and content quality
  • able to provide feedback to and mentor others to make sure they’re delivering quality work reviewing and improving processes

This role is being advertised on a permanent basis. If preferable, Loan or Secondment options will also be available for existing Civil Servants (Loan) and applicants from accredited NDPBs (Secondment). New Entrants to the Civil Service

New entrants appointed in grades AA to G6 will receive DHSC’s modernised terms and conditions:

  • Annual Leave: 25 days on entry rising by one day for each completed year of service to a maximum of 30 days and pro-rata for part-time staff
  • Privilege Leave: 1 day - for the King’s birthday
  • Hours of Work: 37 hours (net) per week for full time staff in all geographical locations, including London and pro rata for part-time staff
  • Occupational Sick Pay (OSP): one month full pay/one month half pay on entry, rising by one month for each completed year of service to a maximum of five months’ full pay and five months’ half pay
  • Mobility: Mobility clause in contracts allow staff to be mobile across the Civil Service
  • Probation: 6 month probation period
