Job summary

We’re looking for an exceptional Foundation Developer to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Foundation Developer, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Job description

Your world of expertise

You will join an area of Technology responsible for delivering and supporting Systems/Services to the Transport Industry. The team's current area of focus is delivering data services to the Aviation Industry. As one of two World Area Forecast Centres, we are responsible for forecasting upper air winds, temperatures and significant weather hazards to enhance safety and identify potential delays. We are an Agile team and build solutions using Python and AWS cloud computing services.

Your key duties

At this role, you will:

  • Develop skills while working under supervision to deliver stories in a multidisciplinary team 
  • Understand and be proficient in different types of testing
  • Be aware of but not responsible for security
  • Coach mentor more junior colleagues

Person specification

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

  1. Information Security - You can: demonstrate an understanding of information security and the types of security controls that can be used to mitigate security threats within solutions and services. (Expert by nature) 
  2. Programming and Build - You can: design, test, correct and document simple programs or scripts under the direction of others. 
  3. Service Support - You can: help fix faults and carry out agreed maintenance tasks 
  4. System Design - You can: assist as part of a team in the design of components of larger systems (Better together)
