The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

We are a team of around 400 people and combine our Newcastle upon Tyne and London operations with a local presence around the English coastline in Brixham, Beverley, Harwich, Hastings, Lowestoft, North Shields, Hayle, Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth, Preston, Scarborough, Shoreham and Whitehaven.

 

Job description   

The Fisheries Data Service Team is made up of 22 Admin Officers, 4 Managers and 1 Senior Manager and we are spread out across the MMO Coastal Offices.

We are a busy team and have a very varied role.  We act as a support function to the wider Operations Directorate, and we are the first point of contact for Stakeholders via phone, email, and face to face in the local offices.   No two days are the same, we can be making sure we accurately licence fishing boats, we could be collating  fishing data and accurately entering onto our systems, we maybe analysing data, purchasing corporate clothing or Personal Protective Clothing for our Enforcement Teams.

This is an entry level management role and is a great development opportunity for those looking to take the first step in people management responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be an effective leader and responsible for managing a small team of admin officers based across the South West (Plymouth and Hayle Offices).  You will be responsible for their direct line management and will manage and develop the team to ensure that all local activity operates to a consistent national framework and plan. You will support your team to ensure that they accurately undertake and prioritise their tasks.  You will also work closely with local MMO coastal enforcement teams and marine stakeholders and provide support to the Senior Manager and the Operations Directorate.  Your will oversee and maintain the efficient delivery of the teams functions including fishing vessel licensing, fishing activity data entry, procurement, Registered Buyers and Sellers, Catch Recording and basic data analysis. Full training on all the team roles will be given.
