A key operational arm of HSE, Energy Division (ED) regulates the UK's Offshore oil and gas industry, pipelines, mines, diving and renewable power generation. Fire Explosion and Risk Assessment is essential in the context of managing offshore major accident hazards, where failures can lead to catastrophic harm to workers and the environment. Energy division has a front line team of Fire Explosion and Risk Assessment Specialist Inspectors who cooperate with colleagues to regulate companies undertaking offshore oil and gas operations or related activities. Job description

You will become part of a team of technical specialists working to help improve safety across a wide range of activities within the UK offshore major hazard industries. You will provide fire explosion and risk assessment support to IMT inspectors for both planned and reactive work. As part of the specialist team of inspectors you will also engage with a diverse range of stakeholders to keep up to date with new developments and to promulgate HSE expectations within the industry.

You will be expected to travel to offshore oil and gas installations to work as a member of a team and also to work independently.

Person specification

You will be highly motivated and assertive, inquisitive and a critical thinker. You will be able to engage with colleagues, external stakeholders and at all levels of the duty holder operation.

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be capable of producing accurate and clear written reports to challenging deadlines and have good presentation skills. You must also be computer literate.

You will maintain currency with the latest technical developments in your area of expertise.

As part of your role you will be required to:

  • Travel to offshore oil and gas installations to undertake interventions, inspections and investigations as part of a team.
  • Assess offshore safety cases and their material changes and inspect combined operations notifications and thorough reviews.
  • Complete detailed analysis in order to identify safety issues and draft recommendations.
  • Write and contribute to investigation reports and industry guidance.
  • Assist with the development of guidance to support intervention work.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in fire, explosion and related risk assessment/management and consequence analysis techniques
  • Have practical experience within a major hazard industry, preferably the offshore oil and gas industry.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a regulatory environment
