Job summary

Working in a team with our Financial Reporting Senior Managers and our Financial Reporting Assistant Accountant, the Financial Reporting Manager will play a critical role in the provision of financial reporting and accounting information to internal and external stakeholders. 

Job description

This will include contributing towards the preparation and review of our Annual Report and Financial Statements, monthly budgeting workbooks, quarterly accounting packs and Whole of Government Accounts returns. 

 

The role will involve the interrogation and reconciliation of a large amount of financial data and will require frequent interaction with finance colleagues from across the organisation to understand and resolve variances. 

 

Through working with the Financial Reporting Assistant Accountant, the role will enable successful candidates to develop their managerial and delegation skills. 

 

There will also be the opportunity to be involved in other key projects, including supporting the development and implementation of new financial software systems and processes. 

Person specification

You will be used to "spinning several plates" at once and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate. As an experienced finance professional, you’ll understand how to work as part of a team in a productive, collaborative and inclusive way. 

 

You will be skilled in using Microsoft Excel and will be comfortable analysing large volumes of data using formulae and pivot tables. You will have the curiosity and desire to develop a wider understanding of the organisation’s various software systems, how they record financial data and how they interact with each other, and you’ll also have experience of year end accounts production and liaising with auditors.

 

You will have strong technical accountancy knowledge, including IFRS. Given the significance of financial assets to our Statement of Financial Position, a detailed understanding of IFRS 9 is desirable.  

 

You will be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level. You will be able to establish good relationships with key stakeholders including internal delivery teams and the National Audit Office. You will be able to prioritise your workload to ensure quality output is delivered on a timely basis, while being aware of and escalating key risks. 

 

You will hold a recognised professional accountancy qualification, such as ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA.
