Job description

The Finance Operations Unit is critical for the collection of income and payments to suppliers.  This role is responsible for ensuring effective operation and delivery of tasks and services that are delivered in line with the Agency’s business requirements. This includes the collection and reconciliation of over £7 billion in Vehicle Excise Duty and over £600 million in fees and charges.

This role has line management responsibility for the Reconciliation team, comprising of 6 staff. You will provide strong leadership to ensure that all strategic objectives are met and quality standards continue to improve.

As our Finance Manager, you will build strong and trusted working relationships with stakeholders, including a range of internal teams, suppliers and shared service providers, communicating regularly to ensure that processes run smoothly. Using your analytical skills to investigate problems and discrepancies, you will ensure that issues are resolved efficiently, and identify ways to strengthen processes moving forward.

The work of your team will form the basis for annual accounting reports. You will work closely with the reporting team to ensure the data you provide is accurate, thorough and received in good time, having gone through the correct processes and delegations in line with Agency’s policies and legislation.

Responsibilities  

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to: 

  • Providing business knowledge to programmes, projects and units.
  • Provide advice and information to Internal & External customers.
  • Check accuracy of journals and accuracy of supporting Management Information.
  • Keep up to date with changes by liaising and consulting with other units, agencies and outside organisations by: 
    • Understanding the changes.
    • Sharing information.
    • identifying and acting on opportunities arising from changes.
    • Developing and implementing business change processes and managing proposed changes.

Person specification

To be successful in this role, you will have experience of working within a finance environment or will have a strong finance background, including the management of finance change. You respond positively to opportunities for changes, and regularly seek to identify improvements to maintain high levels of service delivery.

You will have excellent numerical, analytical and logical problem-solving skills, paying great attention to detail to ensure information is accurate and consistent. 

You can prioritise your workload and handle challenging demands, working under pressure to deliver results against deadlines.

With your excellent stakeholder management skills, you can build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You are articulate and can adapt your communication skills, enabling you to explain complex financial information to people with various levels of financial knowledge.

Due to the evolving nature of the business, vacancies can become available at any time. Therefore, this campaign may create a reserve list to fulfil demand if it arises which will be held for a period of 12 months.

This interview will be conducted on site at DVLA, Swansea, further details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
