Job summary

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is a small government department with a big mission: to keep food safe, ensure that it is what it says it is, and that it is increasingly healthy and more sustainable. Our work is broader than many realise, touching on everything from winemaking to animal feed.

We are looking for a Feed Official Controls Manager who can help us deliver important work that ensures the quality and safety of animal feed produced in the UK. You’ll lead a small team as you provide advice and insights around feed safety and support our work around domestic legislation in the wake of the EU exit.

Job description

You’ll lead on the development of, and agreement to, arrangements for the funding and coordination of official controls relating to feed. Once these are in place, your team will also monitor their impact and seek opportunities for improvement.

You will be a talented communicator and collaborator who can offer valuable insights to colleagues across the FSA and beyond. As such, you’ll understand the value of building relationships with stakeholders, informing and influencing to better support feed safety.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.

Application and shortlisting

You will be asked to provide personal details (not seen by the Panel) and to confirm your eligibility to apply for the role.

Technical: You will be asked a question to confirm that you meet the Technical requirements of the role. 

One of the appropriate qualifications listed in Section 4.3 of the Feed Law Practice Guidance or the Trading Standards Practitioner Diploma including the Unit 4 Feed module.

If you cannot answer yes to this question – you will not be able to proceed further with your application.

You will then be asked to complete an application which will be used to assess you against the following essential and desirable criteria. (Desirable criteria will only be assessed in

the event of a tie between candidates).

Experience

  1. Lead criteria: Experience of programme management along with demonstration of organisational skills and prioritising work effectively to meet agreed deadlines.   
  2. Extensive knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and delivery landscape for feed in the UK.
  3. Demonstration of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with experience of building effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  4. Previous line management experience or the ability to demonstrate skills in the management and development of others.

Lead Criteria An initial sift may take place on just the identified Lead Criteria indicated.

In the event that we receive a large number of applications, the minimum pass mark for the Lead Criteria may be raised at shortlisting stage. Candidates who apply under the DCS, GPTW or RIS schemes and meet the minimum requirements will be unaffected by the pass mark raise.

Interview

If successful at shortlisting stage, you will be invited to a final interview in which we will assess you against the following Civil Service Behaviours Level 3
