Job description

We’re looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic self-starter to support the delivery of the Department’s stakeholder engagement strategy.

The External Affairs team sits within the fast-paced communications directorate and is responsible for ensuring that stakeholders are kept informed and updated about the Department’s work.

You will be responsible for developing stakeholder handling and engagement plans for delivering Ministerial and senior official priorities across modes. You will also be responsible for building relationships with key stakeholders, representing the Department at meetings and events.

This busy role will suit an individual  ready to make the next step in their career. A strong track record of developing effective internal and external working relationships and working at pace will be essential. The role is a great opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their communications and engagement skills as well as build a profile within the communications directorate and across the department.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Help build strong relationships with key stakeholder organisations and groups, as well as proactively seeking opportunities to expand our reach by engaging with new organisations.
  • Deliver stakeholder mapping and build profiles of key stakeholders, using insight and networking skills.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of internal and external events and visits.
  • Create and maintain good internal stakeholder networks with policy teams to help identify key stakeholders and explore new opportunities.

Additional information:

A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
