Job summary

Role Purpose

The Science and Technology Facilities Council has a large programme of work planned around equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) with an annual plan that has the overall aim of building a more inclusive culture, to offer opportunity for all, and to develop the diversity of people and thought we need to be a world-class organisation. At this exciting time, we are seeking an EDI Manager to join our HR Business Partnering team in leading and delivering this plan. 

You will be responsible for the development and co-ordination of the STFC EDI programme. You will work across STFC and closely with the UKRI Workforce EDI team providing expert guidance and support to embed EDI across STFC and build EDI capability and confidence across our workforce.

Job description

Key Accountabilities 

  • Manage STFC EDI projects and activities in the delivery of the workforce STFC EDI Plan
  • Lead the development of the STFC EDI initiatives by gathering information from stakeholders and building an evidence base from best practice in the field
  • Act as the first point of contact for EDI queries in STFC, providing specialist advice, guidance, training and expertise to leaders, managers and staff, as well as managing STFC EDI issues
  • Work collaboratively with the UKRI Workforce EDI team on broader UKRI EDI activities
  • Lead the development and on-time delivery of the STFC EDI annual plan
  • Manage the STFC staff networks and STFC anti bullying and harassment advisers to support their growth and development
  • Connect with local departmental EDI champions to ensure a joined-up approach across STFC and sharing of best practice
  • Report on STFC EDI analytics and data against success measures to drive continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with the STFC internal communications teams to develop EDI messaging and develop/maintain STFC EDI web presence
  • Coordinate STFC EDI events, awareness days and campaigns, bringing together different stakeholders to plan and deliver activities aligned with strategic priorities
  • Lead the organisation and management of the STFC EDI Steering Group meetings and the STFC external Advisory Group meetings
  • Manage the local STFC EDI budget to ensure the most effective use of available resources

Person specification

Essential - 

  • Experience working in an EDI role, team or in a relevant function, providing expert advice and support
  • Up-to-date knowledge and demonstrable understanding of equality legislation, employment law and HR and EDI policies and practices
  • Strong personal working, planning, organisation, and delivery skills; able to balance corporate, team and individual priorities; work proactively with minimal supervision; build and support strong and effective teams, sort problems and achieve success
  • Excellent collaboration, relationship, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively across multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders, explaining complicated matters simply
  • Ability to manage EDI issues and risks, with discretion and maintaining confidentiality

 Desirable - 

  • Experience in managing projects or programmes 
  •   HR or EDI qualification or CIPD membership
  • Research skills with the ability to analyse and evaluate qualitative and quantitative information in order to provide recommendations
