Job summary

Can you design, build and test electronic circuits?
Keen to build your skills and develop your career in engineering? 

We’re looking for people to design the hardware for the custom designed electronics products we produce. 

You’ll bring your technical knowledge and ideas to create and maintain electronic hardware for specialist devices, to meet the needs of customers at home and overseas. 

On the job training is provided, and a portion of your time will be dedicated to innovation and research.

Joining one of our product development teams, you’ll work on hardware products and solutions to protect national security. You may not know all the details yet, but you soon will.

No two days will be the same, one day you could be modifying an existing design to introduce a new requirement, the next you could be collaborating with a multidiscipline team on designing the next set of products and systems.

Job description

You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in the full process. You’ll use your skills and experience to create a wide range of designs and systems whilst working with a variety of customers and design engineers. You can be creative, working in your own way towards delivery. All we ask for in return is that you have a willingness to learn.

Using your diverse range of skills, you will:

1.    Design, develop and document electronic systems to the highest standards.
2.    Verify designs by creating and implementing verification tests and carrying out peer reviews.
3.    Support products and investigate reported defects.
4.    Contribute to project planning and meetings.

Person specification

To apply for this role, you will already have:
•    The ability to design and test analogue, digital and microcontroller-based systems.
•    The ability to work through the product development cycle and to work with production and with manufacturing departments to realise a design.
•    The ability to debug and fault-find electronic hardware.

To strengthen your application, it would be beneficial if you also have:

•    Relevant work experience, equivalent to/ or, a 2-1 or greater relevant Degree.
•    The ability to use electronic schematic capture tools, such as Altium.
•    Experience of PCB layout and design
•    Experience of identifying a solution, developing designs and verification plans from user requirements.
•    Experience of RF design, EMC and signal integrity.
•    Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary design team.
•    Experience of good engineering practices such as configuration management, safety & legal compliance, requirements elicitation and design for manufacture & test.
•    Be familiar with embedded firmware.
