Job summary

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is looking for a new Editorial Lead for membership and donate marketing.

This role sits within the Marketing and Membership team and will own and deliver membership and fundraising content and communications, driving donation and legacy growth, patron numbers and membership visitation, retention, and growth. The Editorial Lead has complete ownership of the Kew Magazine and will be responsible for planning content, commissioning and working with our external agency to deliver the title three times a year. The role manages two direct reports and works with several stakeholders across Kew from marketing to science and horticulture.

Job description

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in managing and delivering a magazine or similar regular publication, in the membership, fundraising, or not-for-profit sector. They will have worked in an editorial, copy-writing, or journalistic environment at a senior level and be skilled at being able to identify great stories and bring them to life to engage and inspire an audience. They need to have experience in producing content across different channels and understand the different requirements in tone and style, while remaining on brand.

Person specification

Kew is a large and complex organisation, so experience of handling numerous stakeholders is essential as well as an ability to work with and challenge senior stakeholders if necessary. This role is the gatekeeper to how and what we communicate to our most valuable audiences. Good personal skills are crucial, this role works with a variety of different teams across Kew as well as manages and develops its own direct reports.

This role is based at Kew with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.
