Established in April 2016, the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) delivers nuclear capability to deter threats and protect our nation.

The DNO oversees all defence nuclear business (excluding operations) and is responsible for providing nuclear deterrence; sponsoring the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (all the organisations, programmes and people that sustain the UK’s nuclear deterrent); and advising on UK nuclear policy, planning and international co-operation on nuclear matters.

The UK’s independent nuclear deterrent has existed for over 60 years to deter the most extreme threats to our national security and way of life, and that of our NATO Allies. To ensure that we have a credible and capable nuclear deterrent for as long as the security situation requires, we are building four new nuclear armed submarines – known as the Dreadnought Class – and replacing our nuclear warheads. These renewal programmes will utilise world-leading technology and are a showcase in science and engineering, highlighting the prowess of British industry.

The Nuclear Transport Operations (NTO) programme is planned and delivered by the Nuclear Transport Operations Group (NTOG) which includes working with multiple Defence and Industry stakeholders.  In this joint endeavour the DNO team is the ‘NTOG HQ’ and is overall accountable for planning and delivering the programme and for coordinating inputs from the other NTOG organisations and for engaging with wider NTO stakeholders such as civilian emergency authorities, military sites and Regulators. 

Within the NTOG HQ the purpose of the Transport Nuclear Emergency Operations (TNEO) Demonstrations function is to plan and deliver training and demonstrations for the TNEO response. This post will report to the AH TNEO Demonstrations regarding the planning and delivery of TNEO training activity.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

You will be part of the TNEO Demonstrations team within NTOG. The team’s role is to ensure that the NTOG response to TNEO incidents is trained, exercised and prepared to operate in the most efficient, safe and secure manner. As Transport Nuclear Emergency Operation (TNEO) Training Planner 1 you will be responsible for the design and delivery of training.  

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver the Planning, Design and Delivery of NTOG TNEO Response Training activities.
  • Ensure all relevant NTOG personnel are suitably qualified and experienced (SQEP).
  • Complete and manage Training Needs Analysis (TNA) across TNEO responders.
  • Deliver the implementation and design of NTOG’s (TNEO) training Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) and Terms of Reference (TORS) for volunteer response community document suite.
  • Deliver a training programme that is deconflicted with the operational commitments.
  • Liaise with Internal and External Multi-agency organisations on behalf of NTOG on the mutual performance of training activities.
  • Manage trainers delivering training courses, and external agency specialists.
  • Conduct trainer reviews and course trainee reviews.
  • Manage and deliver the Radioactive Materials Emergency Response Course (RMERC)

Hybrid and flexible working can be considered for this post but will need regular workplace attendance due to security constraints. Candidates are encouraged to discuss options with the recruiting line manager before submitting an application.

Person specification

Qualifications: (to be completed in post}

  • Defence System Approach to Training Manager Course (DSAT(M)).
  • CIPD certificate in Training Practice. 
  • Other accredited training qualifications. 

Skills

  • Previous experience of the Defence System Approach to Training (DSAT).
  • Previous experience in delivering training.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Radioactive Material Emergency Response Course (RAMERC).
  • Media Training.
  • Data Protection Officers (DPO) Course.
  • Royal Air Force Immediate Response Force Training and Exercise.

Desirable Experience

  • Prior understanding of Security (Data Protection Officer Cse) and Information Management (IM).
