Job description

This is an exciting time to join DIO within the Major Programmes & Projects (MPP) team, delivering on multi-million-pound capital construction projects, critical to Defence Operations in the UK & Overseas!

The position will operate within the DIO MPP Air Directorate which is a £4.5bn portfolio of work covering a dispersed geographic area. It encompasses all capital construction work undertaken in the UK on behalf of the Royal Air Force, as well as elements of the Defence Estates Optimisation programme. The new customer focussed Air directorate strives to build commonality and consistency of service to the customer across the portfolio, delivering an outstanding service to time, cost and performance in a safe and responsible manner.

As a Project Manager you will be accountable and responsible for delivering complex Capital Infrastructure Delivery, with utmost focus on Performance, Cost & Time and proactively managing our supply chain to perform, ensuring delivery of both Life Cycle Replacement or Betterment outcomes.

As a hybrid role, the expectation is that the successful applicant will combine home working with working in the office depending on business needs.

Desirable Experience & Skills

This role would suit someone who has experience of working in complex infrastructure projects and programmes and the use of portfolio management as a tool for managing organisational change and who has an understanding of key programme or project disciplines such as governance, risk management, dependency management and programme security.

Experience:
Candidates will preferably have experience of leading and delivering infrastructure projects.

Membership:
Membership of a professional body institution (e.g. RIBA, RICS, ICE, CIBSE, IMechE, CIOB or equivalent)

Qualification:
The candidate must hold one of  the following qualifications OR provide evidence of experience in: 
APMP/APM(PMQ)
Prince 2 Practitioner 
P3O Practitioner 
Project Leadership Programme
A recognised construction qualification (NVQ Level 5, HNC/HND or higher in a Construction, Infrastructure or engineering related discipline).

This job role is suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station) and working from home as a personal choice.  If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.

  • Candidates should prepare a short presentation (no more than 5 minutes) that covers their role on a project they have worked on that demonstrates they have the key skills and experience necessary to succeed in this appointment. 

We want to offer opportunities to all who are successful at interview for our roles, but this isn't always possible, so we do hold candidates on an active reserve list for 12 months. It is also possible that we may offer similar lower graded role/s to reserve candidates or, if no reserves are appointed, candidates that meet the lower grade criteria in merit order.
