Job description

As an Assistant Project Manager you will be supporting the Senior Project Manager and report to the Assistant Head (AH) for your area, who is accountable and responsible for delivering complex Capital Infrastructure Delivery, with utmost focus on Performance, Cost & Time and proactively managing our supply chain to perform, ensuring delivery of both Life Cycle Replacement or improvement outcomes.

The position will operate within the Major Programmes and Projects (MPP) United Kingdom Strategic Command (UKStratCom) facing team and as such will deliver infrastructure projects for the customers, UKStratCom.

If not already held, the successful applicant will be required to complete the APM within 12 months of being in post.

It is important to note that this post is open to Sole UK Nationals only. You must have resided in the UK for the last 10 years.

As a hybrid role, the expectation is that the successful applicant will combine home working with working in the office depending on business needs.

Person specification

  • Support Project Managers in all aspects of the delivery of various defence infrastructure projects.
  • Assist in delivery of benefits against the business case and ensure appropriate approvals and assurance plans are in place.
  • Work with the Senior Project Manager to Identify and set appropriate project controls, tracking and reporting delivery against milestones and budgets.
  • Schedule and run project resources.
  • Manage project partners and connect with them at all levels.
  • Identify and supervise project risks and issues and ensure effective change management processes exist.
  • Provide key reports and support effective governance and decision making and control of projects and their place in a programme and Portfolio.
  • Support team PMO activities and act as a point of contact for internal DIO stakeholders.
  • Support regular commitments including team meetings and audit activities.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Proven project management experience within a construction industry
  • Experience in delivering major programmes and projects to a high standard.
  • Membership of APM or equivalent
