As a Digital Service Assessor, you will support service teams and lead Service Standard assessments.

Job description

The Service Standard assurance function provides a great opportunity to ensure user needs are understood and appropriately reflected in the design and delivery of brilliant services.

As an assessor you will lead Service Standard assessments, communicate outcomes, and champion the Standard within Digital and more widely across DWP and its Arms Length Bodies, playing a critical role in maturing individual and organisational capability. You will:

  • Use evidence-based assessment methods and approaches to determine if services comply with the Service Standard.
  • Communicate assessment outcomes enabling a range of stakeholders to understand how the Service Standard supports Government transformation, applies to their work and what they need to do to comply with it.
  • Produce briefings/reports to track and report on the status of a service to proceed to the next lifecycle stage, actively contributing to key governance decisions.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and training to digital colleagues on the Service Standard to develop capability.
  • Actively build and maintain a diverse network of colleagues, collaborating in multidisciplinary teams to achieve objectives and provide expert input into Service Standard Assessments.

Hybrid Working

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home.  This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

Salary Information

Pay for this role is from £40,201 to £43,347.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Selection process details

Stage 1: Application

Your application will consist of three parts:

1. A Personal Details application form.

2. Your employment history detailing your responsibilities, skills, accomplishments. Please copy this information into the box field provided.

3. Behaviour and technical statements (up to 250 words each). These include:

Technical Skill:

  • Quality Assurance - Plans, organises and conducts formal independent audits of complex projects, major programmes or functional areas. Evaluates, appraises and identifies non-compliances with organisational standards, and determines whether appropriate quality control has been applied. Prepares and reports audit findings and determines the risks associated with those findings and ensures that corrective actions are carried out. Reviews and analyses audit reports to identify common areas of non-compliance and identifies opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the organisational control mechanisms. Performs audits throughout the supply chain. Plans and oversees the assurance activities of others.


The sift panel will use the information in your employment history, behaviour and technical statements to assess your experience, skills and knowledge.

Should a large number of applications be received, an initial sift may be conducted using the lead behaviour, "Communicating and Influencing". Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift, or progressed straight to assessment/interview.

You will receive a score for each of your Behaviours and Technical Skills. You will not receive a score for your Employment history, it is used to add context to your behaviours.

Stage 2: Interview

If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the Behaviours and Technical Skills above. 

You will also be asked to do a 5 minute presentation on a specific topic. Further details will be provided to candidates invited to interview.
