As a digital service manager within our 3rd line team, you’ll be utilising your ITIL skills, e.g. in Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge and Service Transition.

The job involves working in a large team of service managers and infrastructure engineers. You will be liaising with product managers, users, and wider stakeholders in order to ensure excellent delivery and smooth running of various DWP services to our users.

Job description

As Service Manager you are responsible for implementation, management and improvement of service management.

You will undertake standard service management duties e.g. incident, problem, knowledge, reporting and change management and may need to provide on call support in responding to queries addressing all aspects of the Products and Services including reference to policies and processes.

You will support the resolution of complex issues, enlisting support and escalating where appropriate to relevant IT service functions.

You are responsible for managing delivery to agreed performance targets in a cost effective and timely manner across all relevant functions, using relevant mechanisms e.g. service level agreements (SLAs).

Person specification

When giving details in your employment history and personal statement you should highlight your experience in line with essential criteria below:

  • Incident Management - Ability to diagnose and prioritise incidents, investigating their causes and finding/applying resolutions
  • Customer Service Management - Proven track record of resolving user incidents/requests to agreed service levels. Ability to empathise with customers in line with user experience targets.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the ITIL service management framework application in complex organisations or previous experience of IT service management principles.
  • Service Management Tooling eg ServiceNow - Demonstrable experience of IT Service Management tooling, especially in the management and resolution of Incidents, Problem Management techniques, etc.
  • Operational Management - Experience of the operational processes of running and maintaining IT products or services at an enterprise level.

Hybrid Working

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post. 

Salary Information

Pay for this role is from £40,201 to £43,347.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Stage 1: Application

Stage 2: Interview

If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the experiences listed in the essential criteria.
