Job summary

We are seeking experienced digital forensic practitioners who would like the exciting opportunity to transfer their skills into an operational, scene-based role.

You will work as part of a team of skilled digital forensic officers, deploying to a vast array of scenes UK wide, providing valuable support to investigations into serious and organised crime. The successful candidate will work alongside a diverse range of investigatory case teams and be involved in investigations covering a wide range of threat types.

Job description

At scene, a Digital Forensics Officer is required to conduct forensic acquisition, triage and examinations in-line with relevant legislation and accreditation standards. This will frequently include: examination of live devices including RAM capture and triage, forensic acquisition of data from a range of digital devices, and cloud storage acquisition.

A range of digital skills and experience will be considered for this role as training and development opportunities will be offered to assist in transferring any laboratory experience into a scene environment. This will include a period of on-boarding and mentoring within an NCA Digital Forensics laboratory whilst you complete mandatory safety and legislation training in preparation for crime scene deployments.

Scene deployments are national and can be at unsociable hours. As such, the successful candidate must be prepared to drive long distances and work long hours when deployed, which can often involve overnight stays. The successful candidate will also be expected to join the on-call rota.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend crime scenes and witness premises alike, working dynamically to secure and preserve sources of digital evidence.
  • Provide advice to investigating officers in relation to digital media to obtain best evidence, supporting the overarching forensic and operational strategy. 
  • Acquire, triage and analyse digital media including, but not limited to, mobile devices, computers, cloud storage and routers. 
  • Participate in tasked operations, projects and investigations, gathering information, intelligence and evidence in order disrupt and degrade criminal capability.
  • Comply to legislation and quality standards to obtain optimum intelligence and evidence.
  • Active involvement in the quality management process in the furtherance of operational delivery and compliance with associated ISO quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting for evidential production, including testimony at court as required.
  • Work with a diverse range of teams and external partners to  develop effective working relationships.
  • Develop new, and maintain existing, digital forensic services and technical capabilities.
