About the job

Job summary

We are looking for a Digital Archives Relocation (DAR) Project Lead to join our Parliamentary Archives office at House of Lords. This is a position where you will work within a project timetable, alongside the Archive Relocation Programme and Parliamentary Archives staff, to lead the preparation work and to plan and deliver the Digital Archive Relocation project.

The DAR Project Lead will also line manage two project archivists, who will undertake work on ensuring catalogue data and digital records held in Parliamentary Archives systems are sufficiently prepared for their migration and transfer to The National Archives (TNA).

This is an opportunity to work on a hybrid basis which will depend on business need. This is also an exciting opportunity for someone with experience of working in digital projects, with a strong understanding of collections management systems, digital preservation or data migration in a project context. Experience of working in a heritage organisation, within the context of a heritage collection move or organisational merger would also be an advantage.

Job description

You’ll be accountable for/to:

  • Leading the planning, organisation and supervision of activity to prepare, cleanse and restructure data as needed prior to migration to TNA.
  • Liaising with TNA and the Parliamentary Digital Service to ensure Parliamentary data is portable and appropriately mapped to target systems at TNA, identifying and unblocking issues
  • Communicating progress and reporting to the Senior Project Manager to provide assurance on the preparation, delivery, effectiveness and efficiency within the project and its alignment with wider project/programme activity and plans
  • Collaborating with the Project/ARP Programme and Parliamentary Archive teams on designing and delivering systems and processes for future digital transfer, cataloguing and sensitivity review processes that will remain in Parliament.
  • Manage the work, performance, and development of team members.
  • Document and record project activity and the reasons for decisions, in a clear and consistent way.

Person specification

What we’re looking for:

  • Excellent planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and problem solving.
  • Experience of working on complex projects working with different stakeholders.

It would be even better if you had or if you’re willing to learn…

  • Experience of leading projects in a Heritage environment.
  • Working knowledge of relevant project management methodologies e.g. PRINCE2 and/or Agile.
