Job summary

We are recruiting for an engaging team player to join the key MOD Alongside Services staff, supporting all vessels using the Dockyard Port of Plymouth (Devonport Naval Base).

As part of the national endeavour to support ships, submarines of the Royal Navy, UK Defence, NATO and UK Allies, you will act as the Naval Base Commander Devonport’s (NBCD) representative for day-to-day management / oversight of all waterfront amenities, facilities and utilities provided to vessels alongside Devonport, or military vessels using the wider Dockyard Port of Plymouth (The Sound).

Through the Future Maritime Support Programme (FMSP), and other Defence contracts, to ensure certainty of delivery is routine so ships and submarines get out for operations on time, every time.
Represent the MOD to meet vessels on arrival.

Devonport Naval Base is the nerve centre for the Royal Navy in the South West. It supports operations around the globe and provides the ships, submarines, people, and equipment to deliver the UK’s Defence policy. Its mission is to meet the support and operating requirements for the Royal Navy and UK’s allies, from the South West, reaching worldwide. Devonport Naval Base is part of Navy Command within the MOD.

Job description

The successful candidate will be gathering support requirements from vessels (ships and submarines), processing them and ensuring the local waterfront amenities, facilities and utilities are delivered on time, every time. The information comes in via military signal systems, emails, phone calls, verbal, Skype etc. It is processed, prioritised and passed to Defence contractors to deliver. The successful candidate will monitor, judge and assess the contractors for them to meet their contractual obligations and other legal requirements.

As part of the national endeavour to support ships, submarines of the Royal Navy, UK Defence, NATO and UK Allies, to act as NBCD's representative for day-to-day management / oversight of all waterfront amenities, facilities and utilities provided to vessels alongside HMNB Devonport, or military vessels using the wider Dockyard Port of Plymouth (Plymouth Sound).

To be accountable to the Devonport Alongside Services Intelligent Customer Team Leader for the provision of specialist advice and services in the complex, technical, and specialist area of supporting vessels alongside HMNB Devonport.

Represent HMNB Devonport at specialist conferences and/or meetings with external organisations. Build and maintain relations within the wider port operations sectors, and with other Naval Bases / dockyards.

By necessity more time is spent 'office based' (flexible working is encouraged); however, the successful candidate will also be expected to get out and about cementing relationships, networking and seeing operations first hand.

Person specification

The post holder will have proven ability to work with varying internal and external stakeholders, have strong verbal & written communication skills. The position requires an optimistic and enthusiastic people person who has a strong team ethic. A diplomatic team-player who can establish positive relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation and at all levels.  In return this role will provide you with the opportunity to expand your knowledge and develop your skills to a higher level.

Will possess the ability to work flexibly using own initiative, responding quickly and positively to challenges and changing priorities to meet tight deadlines in a constantly evolving environment.

Good organisational skills and the ability to develop and implement effective administration disciplines and processes.
