Job summary

Would you be interested working as part of our Agile Delivery team, helping to develop products and services that streamlines the process of gaining clearance for national security projects throughout the government? 

Within UK Security Vetting (UKSV), we are undergoing a digital transformation project, where you will be at the centre point of security for the United Kingdom, helping to build modern solutions that underpins national security risk assessments in around 130 organisations. This opportunity will allow you to work on brand new approaches to vetting, streamline processes that affect all areas of the UK government and contribute ideas across discovery, alpha, beta and live phases of development. 

Job description

As a Delivery Manager you will be accountable for the delivery of products and services that sit at the core of our new security clearance products and services. You will collaborate with customers and business stakeholders to enable development teams to deliver products and features aligned to business priorities. You will support the transition away from legacy systems and, with security and architecture colleagues, ensure we appropriately secure our data assets

Duties will include but are not limited to

  • Build and maintain teams, ensuring they are motivated, collaborating , engaged and working well
  • Identify obstacles and help the team to overcome them
  • Focus the team on what is most important to the delivery of products and services
  • Encourage and facilitate continuous improvement of the delivery team
  • Coach and mentor both team members and others to apply the most appropriate Agile and Lean tools and techniques

Person specification

As  Delivery  Manager within UK Security Vetting, we are looking for people who have the following expertise and attributes:

  • Agile and Lean practices. Identify and compare the best processes or delivery methods to use. Recognise when something does not work and encourage a mindset of experimentation. Able to adapt and reflect, be resilient and see outside of the process. Use a blended approach depending on the context. Measure and evaluate outcomes. Help teams to manage and visualise outcomes.   • Commercial management. Act as the point of contact for contracted suppliers. Understand appropriate internal contacts and processes within a government department. Understand how and when third parties should be brought into digital, data and technology (DDaT) projects. (Skill level: working)
  • Communicating between the technical and non-technical. Able to listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders, and interpret them. Effectively manage stakeholder expectations. Manage active and reactive communication. Support or host difficult discussions within the team or with diverse senior stakeholders. (Skill level: practitioner)
  • Financial management. Balance cost versus value. Consider the impact of user needs. Report on financial delivery. Monitor cost and budget. Understand how and when to escalate issues. (Skill level: working)
  • Life cycle perspective. Recognise when to move from one stage of a product life cycle to another. Ensure the team is working towards the appropriate service standards for the relevant phase. Manage the delivery of products and services at different phases. (Skill level: working)

  • Making a process work - Identify and challenge organisational processes of increasing complexity and those processes that are unnecessarily complicated.   • Planning - You can understand the environment and prioritise the most important or high value tasks. You can use data to inform planning. You can manage complex internal and external dependencies. You can provide delivery confidence. Additional information:

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace. Although requirements to attend other locations for official business will also count towards this level of attendance.
