Job description

DWP are looking to fill 40 Delivery Manager roles within Change and Resilience Group in some of the largest programmes across Government. Details about the various programmes in our Group can be found in the candidate information pack.

As a Delivery Manager, you would support the delivery of projects and programmes to ensure that objectives are met and delivered within agreed time, cost and quality constraints.  We require individuals who are organised and can work well with others at a fast pace.  In return, you will join a flourishing, supportive community delivering some of the largest transformation programmes in the UK and have opportunities to further your own learning and development.  

We have a range of challenging and exciting roles on offer, all of which are vital in supporting the successful delivery of transformation projects and programmes across DWP.  If you are highly motivated, interested in a career in Project Delivery and would like to support the Government to deliver its next set of priorities, this role is for you. We will also be looking to form a strong reserve list as we expect to have further roles in the near future.

What are the role responsibilities?

While no two days will be the same, the responsibilities will vary according to the role and will include:

  • Working as part of a team, with colleagues from across the department to deliver customer focused solutions.
  • Building professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analysing data to identify trends, themes and reporting recommendations for action.
  • Monitoring and managing project risks, developing solutions and escalating when necessary.
  • Contributing to the planning, development and tracking of the delivery plans and support the Programmes to ensure their successful delivery.
  • Supporting the development of solutions to the Programme/projects objectives.
  • Undertaking activities to enable the development of high-quality Business Cases and Benefit Realisation Plans and monitor impact.
  • Collaborating across the wider team and other government departments to share project delivery best practice.
  • Undertaking learning and development to build your own project delivery capability.

Our Mission

The Department for Work and Pensions is one of the biggest government departments delivering vital services to some of the most vulnerable people in society. Change and Resilience Group (CRG) lead on the Department’s portfolio of Change programmes and projects.  We work in multi-disciplinary teams to continually improve how we do things and deliver our services with minimal disruption to DWP customers.  We have major programmes such as Health Transformation Programme and Service Modernisation but also some smaller change programmes too.

  • Collaboration skills you have excellent relationship management skills and confidence in engaging with internal and external stakeholders at every level.  You can demonstrate experience of influencing and collaborating with others to build consensus. 
  • Communication skills – you evidence how you communicate information in a straightforward, honest and engaging manner. You choose appropriate styles to maximise understanding and impact to a range of audiences.  You respect the needs, responses, and opinions of others. You are proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel and Outlook.

  • Due to the nature of this post, it requires the post holder to work out of a DWP Change hub in Birmingham Arena Central, Blackpool Peel Park, Glasgow Atlantic Quay, Leeds Quarry House, London Caxton House, Manchester St Peters Square, Newcastle Benton Park, Sheffield Kings Court, Pontypridd Treforest Ty Taf.
  • You will be asked for your preferences for up to 2 locations, these will tell us where you are able to work if you are successful. Please do not select a location unless you are prepared to accept a role in that location.

Hybrid Working

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home.  This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

The Interview Process

This will be a pre-recorded video interview which will last approximately 45 minutes. You must complete your pre-recorded interview within 7 days of receiving the invite. The 7 days begin at the point you receive the invitation. 

All applicants who progress to interview will be assessed against a mixture of behavioural, strengths and ability elements of Success Profiles.  The panel is not looking for how much time you have served in a particular field but rather how you performed.
